What are your must gets / bring back from Holiday

Just wondered how to get wine etc home in one piece? The way those suitcases and thrown around would mean a high chance of them being broken. I can't think of anything worse than looking forward to a nice glass of whatever on return home to find it broken.

Lots of bubble wrap perhaps or just pack and hope for the best? I've only brought the plastic bottle brandy and gin home and thankfully that has been fine although it does seem to evaporate quite quickly!

Used to love buying a bag from the old guy in the square many moons ago, now sun cream, ali oli, olives, saffron, and an empanada for the plane home.

You could wrap them up in the mattress protectors you bring back!!!

Well actually... I did take out a load of bubble-wrap in anticipation. That & clothes worked fine. But we have also bought the brandy in plastic bottles at the airport!

Just brought back a glass vase from Menestralia, (now I've got it home I can't help but think it looks like a gents urine bottle!)

And a super iron cockerel (The type that looks rusty); I may put that in the hall way, (on the floor), and pretend it's Pollensa roundabout

Yep gers - sadly always the ciggies - determined to give up but in the mean time the money saved pays for the flights

Elanor - you can get inflatable air transit packaging for bottles but you might have to pump them up at the petrol station

Forgot about those! No other ali oli comes close (except Coral's). Always find room for a couple of tubs on the way home.
When Morrisons opened their new store in the town they stocked it for about 2 months then dropped it. Despite many requests they haven't seen fit to reinstate it.

Whenever I have taken bottles I just wrapped the, in teashirts or towels,none broken to date.

I also wrap in a few plastic bags in case of breakages but so far all safe and sound !

Roig Cat, can I ask where you bought your cockerel as I have been looking for one for ages?

We always try to bring back sobrasada, cheese and jamon serrano from the Pollensa market. I also like those big bottles of cologne from Alcampo (though some are nicer than others!) and the huge plastic jars of bath salts they sell, though they do weigh a ton and cause my husband to huff and puff about having to pay for excess baggage...

I also sometimes bring back jewellery from the Pollensa shop alongside the church - can't remember what it is called, but they sell clothes too - they have some gorgeous stuff and are fairly inexpensive.

Hi Kate,

I bought it from Artesania in the old town. (The Mallorcan craft shop near La font del Gall restaurant). A local craftsman makes them for the owner who is English she has a website of the same name but I can't see the Cockerels advertised.

I first saw one in a townhouse we rented and like you, have wanted one ever since! I was so pleased when I saw them. There were three, all slightly different. We chose one who looked very proud, just like the one on the roundabout!

For me it is a large boxed ensaimada and a cheeky bottle of wine or 2 from the airport.
