What are your must gets / bring back from Holiday
Sorry if I am repeating a previous thread ....
I was just doing my shopping list for my bringing backs from Majorca and wondered what your must haves are. My mother in law always asks for a particular brand of Saffron and a large almond cake for example. |
olive oil & a Pou Nou t-shirt or 2
|
My wife buys colourful scarves from Alcudia old town (lots of them....)
For me it is something to eat. Usually a few tins of Eroski black olives and a few jars of Eroski black pepper so we can have a Spanish lunch in our garden at home. This year I plan to find the ingredients for Paella so I can make it taste just like on holiday, might need some help to find the local ingredients... |
Mark many years ago hubby was advised by a Spanish friend here in the Port to use a Paella seasoning which she always used in her restaurant.
It's called "Ducros" Sazonador para Paella marinera and you get 3 individual sachets in a box, it's also very good on potatoes ;). |
The paella spice mixes are very good but for me it is a matter of getting myself home intact!!

We've used it once since we got back....:( Marks and Spencer Meals for £10 promotions have a lot to answer for. |
For us, its usually some Pimentón, a bottle of Xoriguer Gin and a bottle of Tunel and sometimes the odd bottle of local red (& White) wine.
|
For me, a simple pleasure and that is the Aloe Vera cream de manos (hand cream) sold by Mercadona at 98 cents a tube. Better than any I've used in the UK.:)
|
We have to take a few bottles of L'acau choc milk for daughter ( she is 24 not 4 !!! ) and a cheeky bottle of Larios never goes to waste ;)
|
Sobrasada is probably the only 'essential' but we will usually pick up 2 or 3 bottles from the following : Brandy, Hierbas, licor 43, macia batle or other local wine.
On our last trip we picked up some manchego cheese coated in rosemary at the duty free shop, that was particularly nice so we'll look out for that again and I do like the idea of picking up a large almond cake ...... we'll I suppose what I really like is the idea of eating a large almond cake :) |

Now i show i'm really boring! I bring back mattress protectors! Yep - told you I was boring! :) I buy in Alcampo those lovely blue patterned thick mattress protectors which zip all around the mattress. They fit beautifully and wash so well.
Oh and a bottle of 103 brandy (not so boring then!) :) |

By the way Mr S has just informed me that the one he uses is obviously a seafood mix, he is pretty sure they also do other varieties (ie meat/veggie :). |
We always bring back a small piece of ironwork from the the shop in the backstreets,a couple of tubs of ali oli (the one in the yellow container) and of course a handbag from the Wednesday market.
|
Well, if it's only hand-luggage it's Saffron, Serrano Ham & the contents of the fridge (!) - usually the Oranges & Lemons we haven't used - we always buy too much.
On the rare occasion that we have a suitcase as last month we added 6 bottles of Mallorcan wine & several tins of Olives. This time I'm going to buy some of the Paella mix too! |
