No comparison....
You are quite right Nick, but I was only sticking up for the Spanish.

Having said this, the display is not all that original as they use the same one for the Feria which is held in April.

The display in Malaga 2 years ago was the best I have ever seen and I compared them to the rubbish ones they had in Southampton that year which is our nearest city

Last year they agreed to cut the number of bulbs in Malaga in future so not so good now

The little village I live in has wonderful lights but it is all done by volunteers and donations not the council Lots of people visit to see them

The lights in PP also depend on donations from the local businesses, for all we know they may be unwilling to agree terms with the council, which is why i said there may be more to the story.

Our lights are actually put up by Volunteers as well Their main problem has been insurance !

The shops all have a lit tree on the front as well I think the Forestry Commission donate all of those It isnt the shops that pay for everything its just contributions from locals They have Christmas fun days (tomorrow when it is due to rain ) !! and all the shops give out sweets mince pies mulled wine etc and the Firemen collect on on the street

At 6 oclock the fire service rescue Santa off the roof and then there are Carols by the big tree Just need some decent weather for it !

Sounds lovely Copper . I think the employment laws would prevent volunteers from actually putting the lights up here but various activities for the kids (including Santa arriving in the square) are organised and paid for by local groups and donations.

Christmas is very low key here, the main event is the Three Kings in January, this is when they have the big gifts and there is a procession of illuminated floats and horsemen with sweets being thrown to the kiddies .

I love the new lights, they are not OTT and it's good to see the church tower illuminated from the inside. As promised here are some more pics :-
