Default Building work

Has there been any sign of building work in the port or pollensa just to prove things might be getting a little better.

Hi Bevgt, i don't know exactly what is happening but for the last week or so there has been a lot of activity in the Hotel Mar Calma. This building has been shut up for many years but something major is being done inside and the boutique below has gone.

There is lots of refurb work going on but the actual new build side has more or less stopped and will be forthe forseable future. The government have been putting into motion various helps for homeowners to renovate their properties with tax rebates etc. Being in the trade myself I'm happy to say that all of this will bring a more professional and quality service to the island which has been sadly lacking over the years.
Still a great place to live!! :-))

Things are looking up, unemployment fell in Construction in the third quarter in Spain, down 66,500, and the total figures back below 20%

Unemployment in Spain falls for the first time in a year

Unemployment in Spain has fallen for the first time in a year and is now, according to the EPA survey of the active population, now back below 20% at 19.79% down from 20.09% in the second quarter.
The number of unemployed fell by 70,800 in the third quarter of the year when 69,900 jobs were created.

In total there were 4,574,000 people were without work at the end of September, 451,400 more than a year previously. The figures also show that the number of long-term unemployed (those who have been more than a year in the search for work) has risen substantially by 61.200. The numbers looking for their first job are also higher.

Unemployment fell in the third quarter in all sectors, but above all in Construction, down 66,500 and the Service Sector, down 57,100.

Thats good news, remember staying in it just before it closed and it was awful. More hotel beds can only be good news for the port.
