Exclamation Regeneration of Gotmar

This thread is aimed at everybody who owns property in Gotmar. There is something going on here that you may not be aware of. What you will probably already know is that there is a plan to `regenerate´the area including new drainage and road surfaces. The work is due to be carried out over the next 3/4 years with an estimated cost of 3 million euros. The bit that is not being well publicised is where the money is coming from which is this - 50% from Palma, 25% from Pollenca and the remaining 25% by a surcharge on the Gotmar `rates´. In very round figures this is estimated at about 1000 euros per property.
If you have strong feelings either one way or the other about this proposal then you need to get involved with the Gotmar Neighbourhood Association who are the ones negotiating with the Council. The last meeting was attended by only about 30 people - probably because the majority of owners don´t realise the implications of whats happening.

For Sale: 1 x Apartment

I can see the reasoning behind this but an unwelcome bit of news.

When is the next meeting?

Hi Deanscroft,
We are not in PP very often but very much would like to do our bit.
Any suggestions what we can do from UK? Would our voice be heard from UK?

I found their Website

Gotmar Neighbours and Friends Association

If this helps, it still looks in "development"

You need to join the association ,membership 20€ per year I think, may be able to get discount if a community joins in total. They meet regularly with the Deputy mayor to try and improve things.

Meetings are usually advertised by pinning leaflets to lamp-posts around the area and by posting to members.

The next meeting has now been arranged. It is on 28th October at 7pm in the Conference Room of the Asociation de Vecinos, Calle Mestral 14. The notice only says that it is to discuss the soon to commence regeneration project. There is no mention of how it is to be funded. I might be wrong but I did get the impression at the last meeting that the manageing committee was not to keen on everone knowing that they were considering a scheme were every residence would be surcharged around 1000 euros!

Thanks for the heads up Deanscroft - I will try and make it along to the meeting, although more than 1 in a week could be a bit taxing! (pardon the pun!)
