Default Europcar and code for endorsements

Has anyone hired from Europcar recently, or anyone else for that matter I suppose, and been asked for this code from the DVLA?

When I booked with Europcar they didn't request any code on my hire form.

I rented a car from Hiper in PP in Sept; no mention of a code (though I had one available for each driver, just in case; never showed it to Hiper).

I subsequently asked (on Tripadvisor) almost the same qn as you've asked, and ten separate people responded saying no request for a code. None said they had actually needed a code.

In case sod's law applies for my next hire, I think I will still get codes again (zero cost, two mins effort). Crazy !

I've still got an old pink paper licence...they never open it to see what it says inside.
I used it in October with no problem.

All they seem interested in is selling their overpriced insurance!!

Yes, they have really gone down hill customer service wise. And do not get fooled by their sales pitch about buying their "cheap" fuel either! Rip off prices!

Cheers all, think I'll do as KWUK2 says and take a code anyway.
I'd already look at that thread Sparky, I just wanted up-to-date info on experiences etc.

Hired from Centauro a few weeks back - no mention of the code...just as well as I hadn't got one, but I have the old paper licence anyway.

As the old paper licence is not being updated you still need to apply for the code to be on the safe side!!

.... although I have not bothered as yet!!

IMO I'd advise against using the old paper driving licence and separate endorsement sheet as it's not up to date and only valid for the date shown, you might get caught out.

Also, the newer driving licence is good ID and in any case, most nationalities use them.

I held on to mine for nostalgic reasons for a long time but succumbed in the end!

Hi

I hired a car last week in the Port from Formentor rentals, they didn't ask for a code, although I had taken one in case. I have to say their service was fantastic, very reasonably priced and the car was in great condition. Will definitely be using them again.

Still got 7 years to go on mine!! whoops giving my age away!!

They'll have changed the system again by then!!

About time they introduced an ID card to cover Passport/Driving Licence/Medical Records etc. after all, everything is digital and accessible on the internet now.

Last two trips to Mallorca neither Sixt or Europcar interested in the DVLA Licence Summary. Currently we are in Lanzarote......its just the same here.

That said, I'll bet the first time I don't take one somebody will ask for it! Britain leads the world in red tape!!!!

Thumbs up Hired from Inter rent (part of Europcar) recently

We hired from Interent (part of Europcar) 3 weeks ago. Took DVLA record with us but we're not asked for it, but best to take it to be sure as only takes a few minutes to obtain.
We have own insurance for excess. They accepted this, and explained they would block 1150 euros on credit card, not charge as some companies like Record do, so no charges on cards that charge for foreign transactions. That done We checked car thoroughly took photos and got Europcar to sign our form to agree where previous scrapes were before we drove away.
Paid for fuel on full to empty with refund if not empty, less their 25 euro service charge. This was all explained to us when we took the car.
When we returned it there was still a lot of fuel left as we hadn't done much mileage. Asked for car to be checked and signed off so we knew that we had covered everything.
Block was removed within 48hrs on credit card and an amount refunded less their charge for unused fuel.
All in all it was exactly as we expected. No complaints. Volkswagen Up for 7 days including fuel used (no extra insurance needed) for £58 through Do You Spain, last week in October. Well satisfied.

Very good value overthehill. I've paid £127 for a VW Polo, or similar, for 9 days including extra insurance at time of booking via Holiday Autos.
Just a question, how much does your annual insurance policy cost? I wonder if UK insurance companies do it as an extra?
