Default Jelly fish

Hi brand new on here so I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly yet but I will soon see. Anyhow we are off to PP in a week for out 9th time and was just wondering how the jelly fish situation is. We also will be going to formentor beach 2-3 times we have little ones and are just a tiny bit worried. Thanks matt

There have been quite a few jellyfish in the UK this year - during a weekend in Suffolk in July we counted seven just in the water immediately in front of us. From what Sparky says it doesn't sound like it has been that bad in PP in comparison.

Jelly fish and wasps re my worst nightmare. I am v allergic to wasp stings, last yr in Alcudia I found out jellyfish bring on same terrible reaction. Been swimming every day from 24th of Aug until today no jellyfish. Visited Alcudia beach twice and noticed big flags beside lifeguard with pic of jellyfish. Water is shallow and warm initially and they are attracted in, took no chances !

We were in Formentor yesterday and one of our party got stung It left a welt along his back and he squealed like baby when it happened. Meanwhile the rest of us beat a hasty retreat! After being doused in vinegar by the lifeguards he was fine and has had no after effects apart from a red blister the size of a 50 pence piece!

Ouch, potentially painful encounter! We were very relieved to have been jellyfish-free during our three weeks there in July. Now though, as a Primary 2 teacher (5 and 6 year-olds), studying the seashore as our main topic and with our school a few seconds' walk from the beach (so, so blessed in our setting!), there seems to be no escaping the tentacled blighters - the kids are absolutely fascinated by them!

Hope that everyone who has yet to enjoy their hols in the Port will remain untouched by the sting of a jelly!

There are jelly fish in the bay today, 8th October 2013.

We went for an early morning walk and paddle along the shore and spotted about a dozen or so in the shallow water.

Some large ones about 10 inches / 25 cm diameter with black spots on the end of their tentacles and easy to spot.

picture of a large jelly fish that was in the area between Tamarells beach bar and the Sail and surf area, there where a few of different sizes all happily swimming along the shore in the shallow water.

----------------

Much harder to spot where these small almost transparent jelly fish opposite Burger king.
The size of these was about 1 inch/ 25mm diameter up to about 2 inches 50mm as a guess, they where small and not obvious until you had seen one.

These small jellyfish are smaller than the picture suggests !

Unfortunately I guess a few people will be stung today.

Great pictures Mark, you could get a job on autumn watch! saw some of the first ones in September also, luckily they are big enough to spot easily not like those little one. Judging by the webcams now, I don't think many will be in today anyway!!

Yes Mark, while I DON'T like the fact that the jellyfish are visiting, what fab photos, Autumnwatch-worthy indeed! Looking forward to showing them to my P2 class tomorrow, they are absolutely fascinated by these creatures Thank you!

I saw one of the small ones last week, or rather I didn't as I was happily setting off for a swim when Chels screamed at me to stop as I was heading straight for one. I retreated to the beach while he stayed on jellyfish watch and saw quite a few more
