Default Match Point - New Sports Bar

This new sports bar bar opened up on the front a few weeks ago. (the Black one) Has anyone been in it yet? Is it busy? What is it like?

Would be interested to here what it is like and how it is doing.

Adios

Dave

Have not been in there and don't think i will, i have heard so many complaints about the place and those are from locals . Someone had a Tanqueray gin and tonic (the tonic was a cheap brand) the bill was €8.50, another local told me he went there on the second night it was open and was charged €21 for 3 gin/tonics again cheap tonic and he said the measures were very small . Someone else said they were charged 5 for 2 small bottles of beer .

so not only do they ailienate residents, PP lovers etc with the brash outside now it seems they don't want customers by having daft prices, not a good way to start a business in the economic climate, maybe they will change if no customers come. Not my sort of place but my daughter fancied it as she's sport mad but not at those prices, there are many other good places to watch sport if thats your thing.

iff they'd been a little bit smarter on their colour schemes i think they would have kept more people happy.

I actually liked the old black and white photos that make up most of the frontage, but the black and gold is very tacky.

Hi Dave

I went in this bar last week and watched the first half of the Champions League final. The staff were very friendly in my opinion and the place is nice and new and clean......oh, and obviously very sport orientated !!!

They have plenty of plasma TV screens so watching sport will be great. On the walls are all sorts of copy sports memorabilia.

I had a couple of bottles of Budweiser I think it was as I can't stand Spanish beer. I can't remember the exact price but certainly did not think at the time that it was any dearer than any other bars imported beer would have been.

It is quite dark and austere inside and I can now see how some would think it naff and out of place.

If it had been made into a trendy cocktail/wine/chillout bar with its position and great view from the mezzanine, I think it would have gone down a storm. Indeed, as I've said before, if I had the money I would have loved to have bought it !!!!

Go in and give it a try. As with everything in life, we all have to make our own opinions.

Just a tad boring. I will give it go when out on my hols and form my own thoughts on the place.

We walked past a couple or so times last week and there was about one to three people in there (one of those evenings had a match on). It doesn't stand out as much as I was expecting and it didn't appear sinister in any way

I guess the punters will be the judge if it succeeds or not.

I afraid that will not be the case as it is owned by part of the "PP mafia" that are worringly opening up various businesses in direct opposition to foriegn owned establishments at present

An interesting comment but a premise that could backfire - why do we not open up mallorcian resaturants and bars? Because we do not have the knowledge or understanding. Is an attempt at an Irish bar by a local going to be as successful as one by an Irish man - I doubt it. It could cost them dearly.

Please discuss
