As one who could possibly be classified as a "newby", may I ask how long has the present kiosk been in the place where it is now, and what was there before this new one was built ?

I don't know but the Hotel Daina was built in 1963 and that's in the photo, no sign of the Grand Cafe 1919 though .

If I am not mistaken, the white car in the background is a SEAT 124, which were available to purchase as from the early 70´s.

We think the car in the front is a Renault Dauphine which was the first car my husband owned in 1965 when he was 17 !

We remember being able to drive along the front but a lot of people we have met have said no always pedestrinised so nice to see that Thank you

I have just spoken to somebody who has told me that in 1987, when he started working in Hotel Daina, traffic used to pass in front of the hotel.

He reckons the road was closed in the early 90's.

He remembers Valls having a small icecream trolley up to around the middle of the 90's, which was when the large hut was put in its place, something he still doesn't understand how they managed to get away with.

If you look closely, I think that the Valls Ice-Cream Tricycle is actually parked between the two cars.

If it is any help in dating the photo, I think that the car next to the Tricycle is a Ford Taunus P5, which was produced between 1964-1967. The photo definitely seems to be the 1960s. Brand new cars seemed to be quite rare for the locals then, so perhaps a hire car?

I have always been amused that postcard companies often used the same photo for very many years. It was quite normal to find photos taken upto twenty years prior illustrating your holiday destination!

Hire cars back then were few and far between and normally older cars that you rented from a local garage - my father used to rent a Fiat 500 from Tomi's?garage

Came to Puerto Pollensa for the first time in 1986 - then you could drive along the front to Hotel Daina turn left and drive around the square - all buses went this way as well.
We cannot remember when this changed but probably early 90's

We first came to PP on our honeymoon in 1978 and the road was still there. We next came with the family in June of 1988 and the pedestrianisation was in place. I think CD and Jonquet are definitely out by at least a year therefore the latest completion would have been the winter of 87/88.
