Thumbs down Devaluing the site

Please do not lower the tone of your fine site by having "Dating Sites" advertised.

What's next. Casino, bingo, 0900 telephone chat lines ?

Yes, I know it's adchoices random adverts, but it has nothing to do with your site, and should be bared via your request.

Thank you.

I second that comment Ram. I hate adverts of any kind and I have a filter on my machine thats "blocks" them but when I spent some time at the weekend updating my Mac I saw these ads on the forum site and I was not impressed. I have re-instated the advert block on my machine now but I don't thing too many members will be too impressed to learn that "xxxxx is available 3 miles away" which is what I saw on my computer.

Ram,

I'm sure you're aware that in order to provide you this site free of charge, we do have to support it by advertising. The advertising that you've referred to is only displayed to guests so the solution is simple, logon to the site!

The adverts that are displayed by Google/Adchoices actually depend on the settings on the computer being used. I don't know exactly what your options are but you can click on 'AdChoices' if you see see an advert. I often see adverts that relate to my previous searches - it all depends on your settings. Although I removed those as it got pretty boring to keep seeing Easyjet offering me a flight I'd already booked! Or M&S showing me some scarves I'd been looking at...

I have to agree with the posters on this one. In did report/give feedback to Adchoices a couple of weeks ago and it does annoy me to see these dating advsertisements on a site I choose to visit. I think it is complicated to try and omit these advs getting through (so to speak). Yes I will log on if this is the easiest way to stop dating advs, I don't mind seeing non offensive tracking.

Thanks Zelda for your prompt response but I would take you to task on the assertion that it's guests only who see the adverts and you have no control over the content. I would think that a guest is more likely to take offence at seeing such ads as he/she may not be totally familiar with this community. Secondly, as the recipient of the revenue from the ads, Puertopollensa.com, surely has the power to insist on what can and cannot be advertised. Families go on holiday and obviously visit the site for information. Is it not beyond the realms of possibility that children see the adverts?

The 'dating advert' that ram referred to was displayed at the top of the forum. These adverts should not be displayed to full members (who have posted at least twice). You will see a banner advert after the first post on each thread. Are you sure that you're seeing the advert that Ram was referring to?

Tonsyl,

adverts that are "sensitive" e.g. sexual content & gambling etc. are banned from the site & I have just checked & confirmed this. I have now blocked what think is the 'URL' (web address) of the advertiser for that site. It may take a little while to take effect. If it is still appearing after a few hours, please PM me. Thanks.

I have logged out again and the offending ads were not there, so hopefully Zelda's action has worked .

I am sorry about those adverts. I had thought that blocking adverts with a Sexual Content would have stopped that sort of advert. Anyway, hopefully those are gone now.

Oops :-
Wrote this before your last reply ( 13 )came on screen, but included anway.
and edited since.

Yes, I am fully aware you must cover your costs, but there are paid for advertisers already. Do you realy need Adchoices to survive ?

I agree you need revenue.

I had visited Puerto Pollensa twice and never knew this site existed.
When I did find it, I of course was a guest, as is EVERYONE who finds this site for the first time, so the WHOLE world who looks for information for the first time ( 6 billion people ) WILL see dating sites or whatever random advert Adchoices deem to put up there.

i have said before, people just want information, or to find a place to stay, then they will go away and never return, having no reason to become a member, so there will be more none members than menbers that will be subject to random adverts, probably a factor of number of members X 100000.
( Edited 12:28, the link in red or blue above, which reads "stay" does not send me to places to stay! but to Restaurants, Cafes, Bars in Puerto Pollensa (Port de Pollenca), Majorca Mallorca )

Info;
Estimated Traffic (visits) for Puertopollensa.com / year = 650,000
Google Rank page = 3

So a little time spent talking to adchoices would be appreciated by the members, and the thousands more none members so that guests dropping in for the first time may be made to feel it's a "pucker" site, and would like to join.

i am no prude, but my exploits past and present would make your hair curl, but one has to have standards.

I hope you can sort out this problem.
( For some it is not a problem, but suggest they re-evaluate the implications of having no standards -Such as the free porn on T.V. freeview and constant relentless gambling adds, since Labour devalued our viewing standards in the pursuit of money over standards )
