Default BA possibly to stop offering free snacks on short haul flights

It is reported that BA are thinking of stopping this - it would be such a shame as I know it isn't much but it just sets them apart a little from the other airlines and the fares aren't that different once you take into account the charges others make for luggage etc.

I think (when I read about this in the paper) there was a suggestion that the paid for food was being sourced from Waitrose

Yes I read that too - we can survive perfectly well on our way to Palma from City Airport without a wrap or roll and a nice little bottle of wine or two but it just makes it so NICE and we feel a bit important! It sounds as though it might only be an idea at the moment but I do hope they don't go ahead with it! Such a civilised way to start our holiday in Majorca or in fact anywhere else short haul with BA

This has now been made official. The food will be supplied by M&S, apparently in response to customer feedback. Of course, I am sure all customers would prefer to pay for their food, eg £1 for a bag of crisps, and not receive free drinks on their flight!

Such a shame, as it did add a nice touch to flying with them. The fares can be generally as cheap as the budget airlines once you take into account luggage etc.

Don't blame BA, to be honest. They want to compete with the budget airlines and this seems a sensible way to do it. The M&S stuff they propose to sell is of decent quality and not at silly prices, so I think it makes sense.
pansy potter and Nick like this.

I do actually because I am not convinced this is because of customer feedback! I doubt if the flight prices will go down as a result of this! As I said before, it just makes for a nicer experience and according to some reports the food prices will be a little dearer than Ryanair or EasyJet though probably nicer food. We find BA flight prices good if you take into account luggage allowances and I have to say you don't tend to get many rowdy passengers unlike recent press reports we have seen lately of hen and stag parties for example! These always seem to be on the budget airlines. However we can easily survive the two hour flight without food and drink but I wonder what will be next, reducing the luggage allowance from 23 kg to 15 kg? I can't help hoping they get left with a lot of the food.............
