Default Palma cathedral

I was in Palma de Majorca last month and I loved the architecture of the cathedral and the best food I tasted was at the Lizarran Restaurant

I agree that Palma is a fantastic place to visit - the Cathedral is incredible, especially the new modern chapel - can't remember the name of the artist who designed it but it has only been there for a year and it is amazing.

As an animal lover though I would plead with people not to pay for the trips by horse and carriage which are offered throughout Palma, particularly around the Cathedral. We were there on a very hot day and I watched the drivers for a couple of hours - during that time I only saw one offer his horse a drink, despite the fact that all the animals were kept pretty busy during that time with customers. Quite a few of the horses, although clearly well fed, looked pretty downtrodden and miserable... compared, say, with beach donkeys in the UK, who are mostly offered water (and affection) much more frequently.

Rant over and I do apologise if I have hijacked this thread...

Bit of a dodgy one that. They're offering a service and it employs people.
I do agree though, no animal should be abused and hopefully someone regulates them??

I assume they must be licensed - and as I said the horses weren't emaciated or anything - and I noticed a hose was available to provide water. But literally one person used it while I was there, and after a while I made a point of watching.

I guess we are a lot softer with our animals on the whole in the UK - probably compared to most countries in Europe... I just wouldn't personally want a horse to cart me and my family round the streets of Palma in the heat knowing it wasn't going to be watered at the end of it. Though never having kept horses possibly this is perfectly OK...

Anyway, this is definitely going off-topic now!
