Beds and brollies 2016.
Oh dear it looks like there could be delays this year, the new contract for the beach management concession has yet to be awarded . I do hope we don't end up with the same situation we had 3 or 4 years ago but here is a translation of this report Preocupación entre los restauradores de Pollença por el retraso en la gestión de playas » Part Forana » Noticias » Ultima Hora Mallorca
Quote:
Concern among restaurateurs Pollença for the delay in beach management.
The newly created Association of Restorers of Port de Pollença wants to show his " indignation and impotence before a fact that is becoming common in the beaches of the municipality of Pollença, is that while most municipalities already have assembled or are about to mount the facilities of the beaches, in the town of Pollença, for the second time in four years, will have mounted their facilities for Easter, indeed, the town Council told us they will not take place until May 1st. "
The association believes that "this will badly affect the image of the municipality if, in addition, one considers that the works have not finished the ride."
The project involving the beaches just come to public exposure and provides important new features, among others, the elimination of skiing, the water park and the 'churro' and the obligation to clean the beaches that are not exploited, plus service lifeguard.
The Councillor for Environment, Tomeu Cifre Bennàssar, recognizes that the beaches are not allocated at the beginning of the season. "It is something that every time a new specification is happening," he says.
Encrypt Bennàssar says, however, that regardless of who is awarded the service or not, the City Council will be responsible for paving the beaches and put in place before the start of the season. The explanations do not convince the restorers .

The banana boat, water skiing and aqua park thing will not be operating this year. Here is the translation of this report :- Eliminan el parque acuático, el
Quote:
Remove water park, 'churro' and skiing from the beaches of Port de Pollença.
The water park , the 'churro' and skiing disappear this summer waters of Port de Pollença . The City Council of Pollença latest specifications governing the public tender for the management and operation of its beaches and trims adding new services such as cleaning the beaches are not commercially exploited, improving the fairness of commercial beaches and first aid.
The changes introduced in the project that has just released Costas public exhibition will involve a reduction of the annual fee paid by the operating company, which will decrease revenues Consistory.
Although the beaches will not be awarded before Easter , the City Council will handle your set-up for the start of the season.

Bit like groundhog day alright with the beds and brollies ...
Will that make them cheaper?
And, it'll be a very quiet beach ...
Some families might reconsider PP as a destination?

You really do wonder where they find these Muppets on councils.
It seems to be the same everywhere. Is there a school for them?!

They do always say the season starts on the 1st May and the Costas won't let them on until 1st April, so they were going to miss Easter anyway this year.

I would stand corrected, but I don't believe that the Beds and Brollies have ever been FULLY in place for the 1st May in any year.
From personal experience I have seen them still being installed in the latter parts of May, most in time for the half-term break - though half term does vary. e.g. Scotland / England (& Wales & Ireland!)/ or even differing parts of England (& Wales & Ireland).
Overall I'm sure they will be installed well before the MAIN parts of the Mallorcan holiday season as usual. Happy hol's to all.

Surely it should not be when "the season starts" but when visitors, i.e. people paying money into the Mallorcan economy arrive and want to use the beach?
In my opinion that would be March time. So what if there's a bit of wind and a few blow over.
I really do wonder at the powers that be in PP with some of the things appearing on here recently.

There were beds and brollies in early April last year.
Only a thought: Presumably that was 'some of them' - not 'all of them' ?

As I said ,nothing to do with the powers that be in PP it is the Costas who give the permission and that runs from the 1st April to 31st October, regardless of holidays or weather.

Thanks

I haven't seen anything about this since my post dated 18th February .
Some of the wind breaks have been removed but no beds or brollies yet.
