CIRCULO CULTURAL (aka the old Bar Cultural).
 

The gentleman that owns Maxims was seen by me yesterday going into the building that was bar Cultural in the square. Was he just looking or was there another reason.The plot thickens...

Went past today and lots of 'important looking' people standing around in side and out, work is progressing but wont be ready for a long time yet!

Got new front doors but couldn't see much else ,stage may have been lowered. Understand that the owner of the building is refurbing it for his grandson's to run.

Lollipop I think that is true, the other day the owners of the building were there with the constuctors and they do have a long way to go and lots of money to spend!!

The new lighting is in and looks very nice, i was told last night that they plan to open in 2 weeks time :).

Hi Sparky, you beat me to it. Was there Friday morning and yes, all clean and dusted and they hope to open in the next two weeks. Amazing what can be done in a couple of days as they were all shaking their heads out there the other day!
It will be nice to have it re-open anyhow and looks very smart and bright.

Yes JMD they can indeed work wonders in a short space of time, i just hope that they have sorted the toilets out :eek: ;). It will be great to have the place open again, the square looks so bleak at the moment with literally nothing open :(.

I was shown around today by the young man who I believe will be runningit. It will be a bar serving Tapas , Nice Sandwiches and baguettes. This is his description!. I can assure you the loos have been sorted out and they look very smart. even have a disabled Loo. Hoping to open next week but still have some bits to do.

I've heard all about the "famous" loos in the old place. Other than sticking my head through the door and being hit by a smog of fag smoke I never ventured inside so I suppose I'll always be left wondering exactly what the experience was like !!!

Mind you, they cannot have been worse than toilets I went into while passing through Israel and stopped to use some in a Bedouin camp many years ago !!!

Seriously though, it's got to be an improvement and thank god it's not another theme bar. Hopefully the tapas will be about as authentic as you can get locally.

Well all i can say is ...i will be checking it out asap and am already thinking this may be a good place for forum meets this year, as long as the prices are competative ;):).

So in what way does it look different Sparky ?

Are we lalking a new plastic & shiny place or just a new coat of paint etc on the old place ?

Do you think it will still be a focus point for locals or will that all change.
Do I have it right that the new Cultural is situated on Av De Juan now ?

If so, any good ?

The people who ran the old Cultural have opened a place on C/Roger De Flor and have taken the name with them.
I don't know the new name of the bar (in the square) it is not open yet.

Not plastic! large copper lampshades,subdued lighting and the bar looks ceramic/marble but didn't go close enough to tell. Loos all in different places . Stage has been lowered,new tiles on floor. A real makeover. Not sure about a focal place for locals they still support Manolo and Tina in the Bar Culrural which is as Sparky says on C/Roger De Flor. Its a shame the owners didn't think the public were worth spending money on before they wanted to run it themselves.

No we are still waiting but i am told it is virtually finished so could be any day now.;)

I am told that the bar will open at 7am tomorrow morning :D.

It definitely opened, will need more outside tables as the season unfolds.

The bad news is that they had a break-in overnight and the TVs, Ciggy machine and safe were nicked :mad::mad:.

Lynn, I wont ask what you were doing in the mens toilets but nice to see everything looking so bright and clean! Heard a few places were broken into this week, bad news but I am glad that they still opened.

It wasn't me guv honest....by that i mean i didn't do the break in or take the pic in the gents :eek:.
All i can say is Alexandreu, Pedro and Anna are very welcoming and friendly. They tell me that the bar will be open at 7am until late every day :D

All working fine now :).

Had a drink in there last week. Vodka and mixer +1 beer 5 euros. As one of the waiters from the brisamarina said to me. If he does'nt stop chatting to the young ladies and start paying more attention to the customers he's not going to cope very well. The vodka it has to be said was 3/4 of the way up the glass. The night i was in the place was quiet busy with locals who seemed to be pleased with it. The toilets were a revalation. Must have cost them a lot of money. The main thing is it's back as a place to sit and chill out in the late afternoon.:)

Fear not corkey, It's still a bar. All thats happened is it's been refurbished inside and different people are running it. You'll still be about to sit there late afternoon or earley evening as the sun goes down behind the church and contemplate the drawing to a close of what will have been another great day in pp.:):)

.........and spending a penny is a much more pleasurable experience ;);).
