Default Visit Report Part 3 The Credit Crunch

With tales of poor exchange rates, high prices and the fact we were staying for the first week at least in a lovely original house on the front, located between one of the ports finest dining establishments and a Spar with a grandstand view of the beach party and fireworks, we decided to dine in on two occasions. For the first we decided to go to Casa Isabel. As they menu says they will cook anything for you so Ms Fussy and I went the day before to see if they would do vegetable paella. The women said yes so we agreed to come back the next day. Unfortunately what was lost in translation was that we would have to order by 2pm. However we did order a seafood paella, trampo, tumbet, chips (well Ms Fussy had to eat something!!) and garlic chicken. Whilst waiting for the food to be prepared I enjoyed a beer supplied with a frozen glass to dring at a table out in the street. Only in Spain can one enjoy a beer whilst sitting at a table in the gutter!! Unfortunately on returing back to our appartment MrsFussy declared the chicken undercooked and promptly threw the chicken in the bin. Everything else was very good and there was more than enough for the three of us. All this fare was washed down by a bottle or Eroski best wine can't remember the name but it was a costly 2.74 euros as well as some beer. Cost of fare 30 euros, value for money (apart from chicken) excellent. Would we do it again ... Yes

AlFresco
Ms Fussy has been a great fan of Alfresco buying many lunches there over the past several years. So this was selected for our second credit crunch meal. A variety of food was selected including tramp, couscous, quiche, and other bits and bobs. Also included were two slices of coca purchased in the local bakers. Total of all the fare came to about 28 euros again wshed down with a botttle of cava from Eroski (about 6 euros but it did come as a special offer withn a half bottle of Rosada). This was the warmest night of the holiday and to sit on our balcony just watching the world pass by oh......

We would recommend either establishment for the money concious for huge portions its Casa Isabel for familiar fare Alfresco.

Thanks again for the review Mr Fussy.

Have read part 2 naturally and again enjoyed your "take" on the various places.

Onward to the conclusion now!

PS So helpful to read the views of "fussy" eaters!

Casa Isabel very good for takeways, Juan and his wife (Isabel, stangely enough) used to run the old El Pozo restaurant, so there are many years cooking experiance behind them. Bit more than your average "takeaway".
