Default Wines for Summer Drinking

It was with good timing that the latest "newsletter" (promotional bumpf) arrived from Tesco's this morning.

On the front cover are three bottles of rose wine with the caption "Life's Coming Up Roses". Hmmmmm!

Anyway, I thought I would share some of the info with anyone interested.

(I'm sorry for anyone who doesn't have a Tesco near to them or who won't shop there but not having the time to trawl around all the supermarkets, this is all I can do at the moment!!!:lol )

Tesco backed up my view that rose wine is undergoing a fashionable revival at the moment and says that it is perfect drinking for this time of the year.

Rose wine should be drunk young and chilled and should smell and taste of summer fruits like raspberries and strawberries (sorry Rob - know I shouldn't mention them!).

The colour can vary enormously with different grape varieties and methods of production - ranging from lightest "blush" pink to almost red.

Don't think of keeping rose wine long term - the wine doesn't have as many "tannins" as a red and so cannot withstand any ageing.

Here are a few they recommend:

Ernest & Julio Gallo Sierra Valley White Grenache 4.48
Great with salads or grilled seafood

Kumala Rose 4.48
Ideal with BBQ's

Beringer Sparkling Zinfandel 6.48
Perfect with spicy oriental dishes or fruit salads.

JP Chenet Cinsault Rose 3.81
Again - ideal with the barbie

Tesco Rose Cava 3.82
Wonderful as an aperitif

Arniston Bay Rose 4.98
Great with prawn cocktail!

Happy drinking and if anyone tries any of the above, please let us know!
