Default Finca Son Bordils Syrah 2001 - Inca, Mallorca

Wow!! Did I enjoy this wine!!

I opened it tonight and let it breathe for about an hour before I decided to indulge and it didn't disappoint!!

My first taste was impressive but I held out and decanted it whilst I went to water the garden.

If you don't decant, and you don't have to, just be careful when you get to the last glass as there was just a touch of sediment lingering in the bottom.

Coming back in from a cool and cloudy garden I poured myself a glass and was immediately smitten!!

So velvety smooth and spicy with a warming aftertaste. A real mouthful of liquid velvet here with no nasty edges or harsh tannins.

I gave a glass to hubby and wouldn't tell him where it was from. He was impressed too and thought it was French - a Chateauneuf du Pape (Syrah).

So if you're in PP, get on down to the supermarket (I think I bought this in Mir though) and go get some! I am sure it will be widely available.

H i jane
Just been looking at some of the sample menus & wine lists:x on the site, a bottle of 'son bordils syrah' can cost anything from 18 to 27euros:eek depending on the restaurant. (Stay being the most expensive i found).

I happen to be a big fan of the syrah grape(or shiraz as they say down under.) so will certainly be sampling a bottle or 2,(for the sake of the forum you understand:lol )

I will be in PP in 3 weeks, 1 day & 12 hours, (not that i,m counting) so will report back on my findings (& sore head8) )when i get home.

chat to you soon,

jiggy.
p s any other tips for full bodied reds!!? will be apprieciated.

Hi jiggy!

It's nice to hear from you again!

We bought a bottle of the Son Bordils Syrah in Mir for about 14 euros and I think it is worth every cent. Not a wine you would want to knock back at lunchtime but one to be savoured over a good meal with good friends.

I'm definitely a believer in different wines for different ocasions and there is enough choice in the shops and supermarkets of PP to satisfy any event, whether it's a BBQ at lunchtime or an early evening aperitif on the terrace overlooking the mountains or the sea. Mmmmmmm!

I can't wait! We are out in 2 weeks and 2 days! Not that I'm counting either!

Look forward to your findings when you get back,
Jane

Hi again jiggy!

Just had a quick look at my past reviews and I remembered we drank a bottle of the Son Bordils Negre in Ca'n Cuarassa which was about 20 euros.

I found this smooth and delicious as well.

This wasn't decanted but tasted good anyway.

Speak soon,
Jane

Hi jane
just got back from PP today & sampled some of the local wines. Had a bottle of Son Bordrils cab sav. in Stay (25 euros but worth every penny, or should that be cent), both me & wifey thought it was beautiful, so good, we bought a couple of bottles of the S B negre from the supermarket(14 euros) to drink in the villa:x , equally enjoyable. Didnt finish them all so brought them back to savour and remind ourselves of what a fantastic time we had at sunny PP
chat to you soon
