Default Mavrodaphne of Patras

That is a mouthful!

Greek sweet red wine Kourtaki and 15%!

Labelled as "a truly remarkable, luscious, full bodied dessert or aperitif wine bla bla".

The other evening some friends and I were discussing wine and one of the ladies was telling us about this one in particular and Greek wines in general.

Wandering past the wines in Morrisons and purely by chance spotted it. But no other Greeks in sight.

£3.99 to me and probably all of you too!

What the lady said was that this was so much better than the rubbish to be found on Greek island holidays!:lol

Porto!! I did laugh when I spotted your post this morning! I wonder who the "lady" is???:eek

The question is - did you buy any and if so, have you tried it yet?

Please let us know if you have and then maybe you can persuade a certain member to give some Greek wines a try!

Happy drinking!
Jane

This all sounds very Greek to me.

Mavrodaphne of Patras, by Kourtaki, from Greece, Mavrodaphne is the name of the grape, and Greeks love it. The overall flavor profile is just like a sweet port, even brown in color like some ports. It might be a tough match with cooked meats, but as a dessert wine, or poured with powerful cheeses, it would be very satisfying.

Well Snowy, what is the verdict? good or bad.
Do you realize you could be our first guinea pig for the wine forum!:x
Not a big fan of sweet wine myself, but i,m very partial to a glass (or two) of port, cockburns & taylors in particular, especially at christmas.
They also sell this wine at somerfields & kwiksave.

Please, please, please jiggy, don't ask Snowy about the Mavrodpahne!!!

I came in for some real stick last night in the chat room because it wasn't to Snowy's taste (and that is the polite version).

OK, it's not to everyone's liking as it's a sweet red, but as an aperitif or a dessert wine, it's delicious.

Everyone (except Snowy) who I have told to try it has liked it.

You can't win them all!

Jane I had to be honest, whats this stick I never got going !! and you know I am a bit of a wind up caught it from a man I meet in PP.

No this wine is not to my taste far to sweet only good thing I had a bad cough and could not tell the wine from the cough mixture what with that and Herbels a right good mixture, needless to say feel much better now.

Jane please dont take it personal I am sure you and me have some good taste.

Don't worry Snowy!! I didn't take it personally!!!

Each to their own and I'm glad you were honest and said you didn't like it. If we all liked the same things this world would be a dull place!

When the Wine Club gets up and running we can try a few good ones!

(I hope!!):eek
