Default Ca'n Vidalet Merlot 2003

I brought this wine home with me from PP and tonight felt a strong urge to drink it as I needed a reminder of how warm and lovely it was on holiday!

The Ca'n Vidalet vineyard is just outside the old town of Pollensa and sadly we never managed to get there. It will be top of the list of things to do when we are next out on holiday.

I bought this bottle at the wonderful delicatessen/wine shop Ensenat in Pollensa Old Town for a cent under 10 euros.

It's a hefty 14.5% alcohol and I could certainly smell the strength when I took a sniff. When I had a good mouthful I tasted cherries (a bit like liquid Black Forest Gateau) and it was very rich and juicy. It was tannic (made my mouth pucker with the dryness) but I'm going to try it with some roast pork tonight.

Enjoy!

I must admit we werent too keen on any of their reds last year - all tasted very musty without any roundness of taste. I still adore their whites but will give reds another taste. They were also due to be starting their "champagne" whites this year so will check on that too.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Jiggy - I know you're surprised at my ability to resist the wine but I can do it sometimes, you know!

I also have another bottle of Mallorcan wine in the rack as well which I will leave for when I'm really desperate...:rolleyes

Anyone fancy starting an import business for Mallorcan wines???
