Default Mortitx

Following a recommendation from my Brother, the Baroness and I took a drive up the Lluc road to the Mortitx Vineyard last week for a guided tour and tasting. A highly enjoyable and informative morning, followed by a very generous tasting of their delicious products, with lunch.

Funnily enough, my favourites were quite the opposite to those that I would have expected. Usually a big, in yer face reds type of guy, I was blown over by a very pale rose called Flaires and a dessert wine called Dolc de Gel, made using frozen grapes.

At €20 per head I can thoroughly recommend it. Check out their website for contact details. Tours are by booking only.

We first tried the Flaires at the wine fair a couple of years ago. I agree it's absolutely delicious. The only place I've seen it on the menu is Little Italy and Ca'n Teresa, which is a shame as it's a perfect summer drink...and a very pretty colour

You can also get hold of Mortitx Flaires Rosado at Stay. I agree it is great on a hot summer's day!

Also available at Centric, can't remember the price but was reasonable. Can also purchase at Aue Surreill (spelling ?) in Pollensa Town.

So how did you get there and back ..... I assume the amount of wine to taste was such that no one drove so what was the taxi cost ?

Or did you get the bus ? Just trying to plan a visit for early September

Good point, I like your hopeful thinking! I looked on their site but couldn't find a link to show the tour at all, just the phone number to book. Its always good to know what's involved before you commit!

Neither, I'm afraid. Some friends dropped us off on their way to Es Guix and picked us up on the way back.

We'll done Supermac....... I have just bought a bottle from the Spar shop on the front near Six Pins...... Not cheap at 13 euros but quality and taste is exceptional, especially when being consumed on the terrace with a Mediterranean platter and views over the bay !! If anyone wants to purchase in bulk I,m sure we can arrange a delivery from the winery.

Had a great meal as always in Osteria tonight with friends and tried this wine for the first time. We loved it so much that a 2nd bottle was ordered.....well worth the 23€ IMO .
