Mule D Wine

What goes into this mule wine that Jamie Oliver goes on about? Can someone please tell me how you get a whole satsuma (what ever happened to good old Tangerines?) and oil of cloves:x into your wine bottle?
I think I've missed something along the line:(

Take care.

Re: Re Mule D Wine

Portofan I'm not too sure about a kick I cann't feel a thing now. The truth is after adding all of the satsuma and a bottle of oil of cloves I can't feel or taste a thing:eek My mouth has gone all numb my lips are all loose and sagging and the wine just pours out at the corners of my mouth. when I speak I sound like Jonathan Ross with cotton wool in his mouth. Do you think I might have an alergy to Satsumas? of maybe it was the ALDIs wine (I only opened the box in the Summer) to be honest before I lost my sense of tatse it did taste a funny a bit like that stuff you get at the dentists.
I have half a washingup bowl of the stuff left, should I bottle it and give it away as christmas presents? Would you like a bottle?
Take care.

This reminds me of a certain post about Sangria...

If anyone has a serious recipe for mulled wine, I'd love to hear it...

Which reminds me again...I never did get that recipe for pumpkin pie from Bonez...:eek

Jane mind you dont get the pip.

You asked for following this sound the real Mackoy

Glühwein - German Mulled Wine Recipe

This is a German version of mulled wine.
When I was 18 and stationed in Heidelberg, Germany I encountered a cold that was strange to someone from southern California. Fortunately I found glühwein. It was a joy to walk into a warm bar and order this tasty mulled wine, bursting with spicy flavors. Here is one of my favorite versions.

Ingredients

4 quarts dry red wine (zinfandel, merlot, burgundy, etc.)
1 pint brandy
1 cup sugar
6 cinnamon sticks
12 cloves, whole
1/8 tsp allspice
1/8 tsp mace
2 oranges, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
Directions

Pour the wine into a large pot and begin heating over low heat.
As it begins to warm, add sugar and spices. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
Add the brandy.
Heat thoroughly, but do not allow to boil!
Add the lemon and orange.
Steep for about 1 hour over low heat.
You may add more sugar during this time if desired, stirring well so it disolves.
Serve hot and garnish with orange slices. A stick cinnamon could also be used.

;) ;)

Haha! Snowy!!

We're off to Berlin tomorrow for a few days so I'm hoping very much I'll be able to try some authentic gluhwein!

If not, I'm sure I can find something to keep me warm!

Have a good New Year!

Re: Re Mule D Wine

I tried some delicious gluhwein in Berlin and very warming it was too!

You could hardly avoid it as there were stalls everywhere selling currywurst and gluhwein which was great as it was very cold!

Now, I'm tempted to make my own to keep away the winter chill.

Evidently Threshers did / does a Mulled Wine "mix" - bit like a liquer to add to the rest of your own ingredients. We had it in a set but you can buy it singly. It really gave a wonderful depth to the drink. Not that Ill know any more - I am now tea total for ever! :o
