White Macia Batle

Hi

I have never tried Macia Batle but with all the recommendations on this site I will have to make amends on my next visit. The $60,000 question is will I like it. My usual preference is for a Savingnon Blanc so will Macia Batle do it for me?

Also is it on the menu of most of the restuarants and at what price?

Cheers
Scotty

Hi Scotty

This is the description of the Macia Batle Blanc de Blancs from their website:

The Prensal Blanc grape, a traditional Majorcan variety, refined
with a variety of Chardonnay (known throughout the world)
have been selected for their subsequent low temperature fermentation,
producing a fresh and fruity aroma. Pale yellow in
colour with hints of green, the exquisite aromas of fruit can be
appreciated containing green apple, banana and ripe pineapple.
Smooth on the palate with light acidy sensations, the recommended
serving temperature is 8 °C. This wine is especially
suited as an aperitif and in accompanying salads, soft cheeses,
sea food and fish.

If you like Sauvignon Blanc, (which is normally dry and crisp and likened to fresh grass, nettles, asparagus and even cat's pee!) then it sounds as if you might enjoy the Macia Batle. You'll notice that they've blended the Blanc de Blancs with some Chardonnay as well.

As for prices, at Maxim's it's on their menu for 18.50 euros, one member (sorry forgot who!) says you can pick it up at the airport for 5 euros and I know it's about £10.99 in the UK. I should think in the supermarket it would probably be between 6-8 euros. I saw it in Mir 3 years ago for about 9 euros.

Hope this helps!!!

Jane:)

Thanks Jane

This is one that I will try,the restuarant price is quite good as well .

Any more suggestions ?

Oh hubby does like the odd red so I suppose for the sake of fairness I should ask about them as well .He tends to stick to a Rioja but with a recommendation I am sure I can get him to be a bit more adventurous .

Cheers

Hi Scotty
We dont drink alot of white wine, but if its red youre after, you must try the Son Bordils Syrah or cab sav. Its beautiful. Found in alot of the restaurants for about €14-27, or try buying it in one of the supermarkets, I got it in Caprabo for about €5!!
Enjoy
Jiggy

Thanks Juggy will look out for this one .It does amaze me just how much the mark up is on wines and although I appreciate that this is how some restuarants manage to survive I always think to myself if only they reduced prices we could be persuaded to buy another !

We often end up getting half bottle of red and a full bottle of white but on half bottles the mark up is even more eyewatering.

Never mind when you are on holiday it better not to think too deeply about these issues and just enjoy your good fortune .

Cheers

Scotty

I can only echo what jiggy said about the Son Bordils Syrah - it's stunning! Very velvety and smooth!

I know for a fact that O Lume has it on the wine list.

Jane;)

Actually - I think that name might stick now Juggy! :p

Scotty - you are a lady Scotty - I was thinking Star Trek - sorry!

I am not an oaky white lover - like you a drop of sav or maybe a pinot grigio is my taste and I loved the white MB last year - recommend it to you. (think it was Mark spotted it at the airport going cheap.)

As for red - your hubby will be ruined in PP. From the yummy, cheap little rafia clad bottle of Siglo in the supermarket to the lovely Anaras Crianza or maybe Millflores (bottle with poppies) or - what's the one with the ram's head on the label coto or something? Too many to choose from... yum yum yum and all nice when a wee bit warmer served in the sun.

lala ;)

So sorry Jiggy should have checked the spelling before posting. Definitley going to try the MB and hubby can make his choices from the recommendations on the reds.

This is what is so nice about this forum lots of good advice on all the nice things in life!

Juggy!!!! lol:)

I think your ears are very petite Jiggy!

I keep looking in Tesco to see if they will sell MB - not so far but maybe one day? But as our local fine wines store doesn't provide it then what hope? :(

sws97sdg 22-05-2008 09:46

I didn't realise we had two wine experts amongst us, lala descriptions were excellent, not only describing the wine but what the bottle looks like as well :)

Speaking of favourite wines you cant beat a really cold bottle of Freixenet, that’s the one in the black bottle lala :p

Lala70w 22-05-2008 13:06

OOh Yes SWS I love some cava too (sounding like a lush here but in good company maybe?)

As I think discussed in an earlier thread I think (or maybe the Tapas Bar) I also like the demi sec bottle of Freixenet (it's opaque golden bottle SWS) or Anna Cordinu with the cameo brooch type picture of the lady's head on the bottle!!

So folks if you are in the Voramar Supermarket looking looking for a nice bottle of cava forget names and grapes which we all know can disappear in a blur of suncream and holiday amnesia, and look for a bottle of Anna (by looking for her head) and then enjoy a lovely tipple courtesy of Lala's description! :p
