Default Rose Wine Suggestions please

Now that the apartment has been booked (Casa Pena since you ask via Mirimar Hotel) my thoughts are now turning to what nice wines to buy for the lunch time sitting out on the balcony type wine.

I do like whites but thought of a lighter rose type wine for lunch times. So has anyone out there got some siggestions for me please ?

Also some nice Cava ?We always like the stuff we get to drink at Stay s our pre dinnre drink but never remember ehich one it is.

Cheers

Scotslizzy after a lot of research at last years Wine fair I decided my favourite rose was Mortitx. They also do a lovely blush which is very light and fresh and perfect for 'lunchtime balcony people watching chilling'! It's the most beautiful pale pink so not only does it taste delicious it looks very pretty too!

Of course I will be ongoing with my research at this years Fair just to make sure I made the right decision

Stay's wine list for you, it may jog the memory;

Stay Restaurant

Interesting that their house white is from Mortix. Have been sampling this a few times ourselves and visited the vinyard too. I'm sure you will have fun testing a couple of recommendations Lizzy!

Smile Rose Wine

Some years ago I discovered the Juame Mesquida stall at the Pollensa Wine Festival.
There were lots of people trying a rose wine, which eventually sold out!

I went to the Vineyard in Porrores, and met grandfather. The rose had just won medals at an international wine festival. There were 3 generations of the family involved in the business.

Over the years the rose has just got better and better. Occasionally it turned up in supermarkets and the price rose from about 6€ to about 10€ now.

You can still find it away from Porrores.

It's from the Juame Mesquida family in Porrores and is called Rosat de Rosa.

It's the perfect drink for the balcony during the summer.

I hope you see a bottle while you are about. It's worth trying.

Cheers!

This is great stuff, but their reds are even better. Also Torres do good roses which are usually cheaper than the Mallorcan wines for some reason

Have to agree the Mortitx is very good although my favourite was a rose we had at Nicos about four years ago called Otazu which tasted light and of strawberries. Have not seen it anywhere since.

May I suggest the "Bach" rosé, easily available in Euroski and quite reasonably priced, I have only ever drank rosé wine and for my taste I find this better than the Torres roses which I feel taste a little too chemicaly.

I am actually drinking a rose wine rght now from M&S (part of their dine for a tenner deals) Raso de la Cruz not great but drinkable.

Still doe not match drinking your wine on the balcony of your apt or hotel room overlooking the bay .

Ah Bliss

Sorry - but when in Rome etc. Ok - Mallorcan wines are not cheap but they are a damn site cheaper than wines in the UK and you are on holiday.

You are also helping to support what is a relatively young wine producing region (despite the fact that the region has had wine production since Roman times and Probably before)

The more we support local producers the more they can produce and the prices will reduce with competition.

A good Mallorcan wine will cost on average from 6 euros up - in the UK that price would more than double - enjoy them while you are there and try as many as you can

Rant over!

Following this years Pollensa Wine Festival I would suggest Flaires from
Mortitx (blush I suppose, but no serious winemaker would use such a title!) plus
Blanc de Negres from C'an Vidalet - in both cases you would be supporting
vineyards from around Pollensa who produce great wine - the hell with
supermarket plonk!

I agree the Mortitx Flaires is still my favourite but why can't it be found in any supermarket in PP?
