Default question about the sea!

Hello, I was looking at the trips that are offered to caves, snorkelling, sunset watching etc. My other half gets a bit queasy at sea(!) - from pictures the summer waters in PP look very calm though. What do you think? Sian

The sea in Puerto Pollensa is very calm as its a Bay it is protected from rough seas. The best trip would be just to go over to Formentor beach on the Ferry or excurison boat (only about 20mins) or the Robinson Catamaran half day trip is excellent.
The sea can be a little bit rough as you cross from Alcudia to Formentor lighthouse.
Most people cope fine with the Bay of Pollensa. A dip in the sea is an excellent cure for any delicate stomaches. Enjoy your holiday and boat trips.

We went on a really relaxing boat trip last October - right up past Formentor and round the lighthouse - so we got to see parts of the coastline we'd never seen before apart from the plane The boat stopped off a few places and there was an opportunity to swim from the boat as well. I think if you pick a calm day - (and the chap who sells the tickets seems to have a built in weather station!) you will both enjoy it. As JMD suggests, try a short trip first

Thanks for your replies - think I will try going over to Formentor beach on a short trip, Though I hear it gets really busy. Was thinking about getting the last ferry (did I read somewhere that was 3pm) hoping things quieter later in the afternoon?

Formentor is a lovely place but don't forget if you get the last ferry over, you still have to get back!!

Hi, I agree with all of the above, and in terms of simply swimming in the Port itself I can thoroughly recommend the area right out to the markers in the area of the Pine Walk around Sis Pins and Corb Mari. I like to cover the whole designated swimming area but some patches can be a bit (unexpectedly) rocky and shallow, leading to some scrapes and bruises if you're a tad clumsy like me! I do LOVE it though, it is a pretty safe area even when the sea's a little choppy, and, as few people actually bother to swim out very far it is absolute bliss to just float around in peace, with the occasional visit from the beautiful resident cormorant, a true privilege!

Swimming from a boat in the Cala [St Vicente] - or indeed just swimming out from its beach - is always a memorable and invigorating experience too, as long as the waves behave themselves!

You have just described my early morning constitution we have probably passed each other like ships in the Ocean Mairi, I love the swim back to shore thinking how lucky I am to be alive.
