Default The bikes were fine, but then...

I posted some time ago about the problems in April driving with so many cyclists around, hoping to decide whether May is less of a problem (no blame on the cyclists, just a wish for an easier life). We are fortunate enough to visit in October as well, which was a pleasure this year, apart from coming across the people skiing on roller blades (don't know the proper name for this) going up and coming back down from Lluc. We came across them on the roads elsewhere, some doing dangerous manoeuvres (u-turns, etc.), others blocking much of the road. It seemed totally inappropriate for the roads, and highly dangerous. Please tell me that this is not the next mass sport for Mallorca!

Could be a great new sport. Roller blade skittles. See how many you can knock over in one go while in a car!

Roller Skiing

Maybe some of the pro ski teams are having pre snow ski season training camps.

There is a hotel that advertises on here that has some information, looks great fun if you are fit enough.

A you tube video of someone training:

there is a website all about it
search for rollerskimallorca.com

I think it looks great fun

Great fun probably. All over the road and dangerous manoeuvres maybe not so.

We think it was the Norwegian Olympic ski team doing some training. They were using the school grounds on Vincenc Baudes by Méndez Nunez and accidentally kicked their football on to the balcony of one the unoccupied apartments next door. We let one of the chaps in through the gate and between Swedish to English, English to Spanish and Spanish to French we managed to get a ladder and send the chap up for the ball. He was telling us who they were. Kept us entertained for quite a while but not seen them this year.

Interesting replies. Mark's link to the Duva website is especially interesting. How they can claim that the roads are traffic-free and safe for this sport is beyond belief. I love sport, but this use of the roads around PP is a disaster waiting to happen.

This is not good. I hope the skier is OK. When we saw them last year they were using the service roads on the bypass. Still not ideal but safer for them.

That is very sad news; I hope the individual involved is ok. And I hope that something safer can be found for the roller skiers than what is currently going on. I imagine it is not enjoyable sharing the road space with traffic, but I also see that they need long distance courses. Busy roads appear to be the antithesis of cross-country skiing.
