Red face New server, new features?.

Just being nosy, since the new server I think, words are now linked via a hyperlink to parts of the forum, for instance if you post car hire this becomes a link to the car hire page, is this automatic or is this something the mods have to do manually, just wondered?

Thanks Sparky, thats clever and very useful, and just to prove the point car hire above has turned into a link and as no doubt this one will!

Yes there are a couple of extra features provided by our new server but this one does make it more simple to access specific info, quickly.

Hi there,

if you really want to be technical, there wasn't actually a new server. Our hosting company 'moved' all the existing servers to a new home literally along the M25 - the issues seting them up again caused some downtime. The most recent outage was apparently a network issue with the host company so that the servers were OK but nobody could access them.

When the move took place some of the software was brought up to date so I needed to upgrade the forum software at the same time. When I did this, some new features were available including the 'Likes' feature & one called 'wordlinks'. I have done that sort of thing manually on occasion so it made good sense to set something up to do it automatically. It goes back to the old issue of having lots of forum members who aren't always aware of what's on the main site (or that it even exists), in this way mentions of words such as car hire, flights, hotels such as the singala are automatally linked to.

Occasionally the links aren't appropriate but that's what you get with computers!

Hi Zelda, thanks for the explanation, lol I can imagine sometimes you wouldn't want it to link words!

There is another feature but it's a bit technical for me (maybe Zelda can explain it), if you scroll to the bottom of the page there is a box which says "default", if you click on it a drop screen opens and you can select the "mobile" or "default" options. I assume it has something to do with ipads and iphones .

Hi,

Yes I have added a 'style' that can be used on mobile phones. I haven't publicised it too much because it's supposed to work automatically if you use a phone but doesn't for me (but it may be my rather old HTC tytn) & I can't always get the pull-down to work from my phone.

Anyway, if you are browsing the forum by smartphone or even Ipad, go to botom of the page - bottom left - & where is says 'default style, select 'Mobile Style' instead. If it works you will see a simple version of the forum with no graphics - it will say Pollensa Forum - Mobile Edition' at the top & you can return back to the standard 'PC style by clicking on 'PC Mode' top right.

If you cannot get this to work on your phone, send me a PM & I can give you a direct link that may help.
