Default Booking villa

Hello, I've booked a villa in the Pollensa area through this site and the agent (Sunquest Holidays in PP) is asking me to pay by cheque express mail or bank transfer. I have never booked anything on the internet before and although the people sound very nice wonder about sending money like that (and it will add up to over a thousand pounds paid before the trip)- do I have any protection if anything was to happen to the business before my trip and is this method of payment normal? I would be grateful if anyone can advise me about this situation. Thanks.

the majority of private villas advertised on this site are paid for like this & although, as far as we know, there is no legal guarantee that your payment is covered we are not aware of any situations where the owner has not offered a similar property or refunded the costs if the property is not available.

With regards to Sunquest and other local agents, I suggest that you contact them & ask what guarantees they can offer.

If this does not reassure you, then the alternative is to book via a UK Tour Operator which may cost you more.

At the same time do cover yourself for cancellation costs by taking out personal Travel Insurance - an on-line quote is available at www.puertopollensa.com/TravelInsurance.html

Thank you for the reply and the helpful advice. It is very reassuring to hear that this is a normal procedure when booking a villa in this way. I will speak to the agent as you suggested and also get insurance. Other than that I am really looking forward to my holiday to this area. Thanks again!

We are using Sunquest this year and find them very helpful and prompt in answering any queries and waylaying any fears! It,s our second time booking a holiday independently and it is a bit scary, BUT well worth it! You feel like a real traveller!

Dear Colynn

Thanks for your reply. I feel much less concerned now - just never done this before - but as a matter of interest do you have any 'cover' for the money you pay before you go? Enjoy your holiday!
Best Wishes Marie41
