Default Cigarettes

Hi - whenever on our hols we always purchase our cigarette allowance for my Dad (it lasts him from holiday to holiday) we usually purchase them from the small Tabac shop near to the square - we have always used cash but does anybody know if they take VISA cards ok?? We have a Santander Card that we use purely for holidays and wondered if we could use this to buy them instead of having the trouble of taking the cash with us??

Just in case you dont know, the cigarettes in palma airport are 6+ euros more per 200 pack. I found out at my cost, so always buy them in the port.

regards

I used my Santander card to get cigs, there's another Tabac just down from the roundabout towards Alcudia, the prices are the same just a bigger shop, as Gary said don't get them at the airport.

When you pay by debit or credit card, you should be asked if you want to pay in Sterling or Euros. You should always insist on paying in Euros. This goes for every transaction retail purchase or 'hole in the wall' withdrawal.
Before you hand your card over say clearly 'I wish to pay in Euros' so there is no confusion. Once the retailer presses the button things can't be changed.
The large Tabac opposite the marina bus stops seemed to be well stocked plus numrous offers available.

If you do pay in Sterling, the retailer has the benefit of an extra slice of commission on top of the value of the goods, and it defeats the object of getting a commision free card for the hols.

On hole in the wall withdrawals don't pick an terminal where the sun makes the display unreadable and read carefully the text that asks about euros or sterling. It may just be me, but it can appear to be contradictory (or should that be counter-intuitive). Forget which way round it is, you should select no, when you think you should be agreeing with the statement and pressing yes. Just something to be aware off.

Does anybody know how much the Regal King size are for a pack of 200?? I think they were about 34 euros last time in PP (which was June last year)

Mandy... what r u assuming as ur 'allowance' ?

there is only a recommended amount... if bought and paid for locally... and that is over 3000.

The money I save buying my 'fix' in spain, pays for all my trips to PP... not the main reason for the trips... but definately an added bonus !

I got Silk Cut and they were 38 euro and L & B were 37 sorry don't know other prices but I assume they would roughly be in the same price bracket.

Gold Coast range (similar to Marlboro) are now 32 euros a carton. Why not try some of the cheaper onknown brands while you are there - you may find something to like and save a packet (pun intended!)

Miriam - I have to agree with you - what we save on the ciggies pays for the flights
