Default Good Supermarket?

Hi, I'm a newbie and love mallorca. However, next year will be our first time in PP. We are staying in a central area (not far from the square) and like to do some catering for ourselves. My question is where is the nearest good size supermarket selling all the essentials?

Thanks

I think that the best supermarket in the Port is Hyper Centro.
The fruit and veg are really good as is the meat section.
Lots of locals use this supermarket, and that says a lot.

You can find Hyper Centro by walking towards Pollenca from the main roundabout. You come to the traffic lights. Turn right, and Hyper Centro is just along on your left.

If you want a decent butcher, opposite Hyper Centro is a shop selling arts goods, pencils etc. Go down the street by the side of this shop and the butchers is on your left.

I hope this is useful,

Frito.

I agree, Frito. I think this is a great supermarket & not as hectic as the big ones. Good freezer dept too.

Hello Familygal and welcome to the forum. I agree with Frito and Cheryl about Hypercentro in C/Vicente Buades and the butcher called La Carnisseria which is in Carrer Xaloc. The butcher does a large range of pre-cooked food most of which needs to be pre-ordered but it is very good quality.

Hi familygal
The supermarket is about a five minute walk from your apartment. If you come out turn left and keep walking you wont miss it. There is also an eroski just a little bit further on. They will actually deliver your shopping for 5 euros. I didnt actually use this service because it was late in the day and they
told me to go back in the morning. I just got a taxi which cost me about 6 euros. Ideal for getting all the heavy drinks etc. there are also loads of spar shops nearby for fresh bread etc. Another tip is pay a little extra for cravendale milk because it last longer. I found the spanish milk went off after two days meaning you have to throw it away. The cravendale lasted until it was empty. lol

Thanks everybody that's really useful. I know about the milk its the same whererever in Spain you go. The local stuff goes off really quickly.

The delivery thing seems a good idea. If you go in the morning when will they deliver? Do they give you a time or do you just have to wait in for them?

Cheers

re milk we always use Palmacreme fresh semi skimmed milk - never had a problem. Suppose it depends on how efficient the fridge is

Use Hyper Centro every day when i'm in PP, love taking a detour along the front in the early morning then heading up to HC, fresh bread fantastic, also concur with the butchers, not a fan of burgers but the homemade ones they make are wonderfull. There's also a useful looking fishmongers across the road, to your left, great big lobster tanks etc, haven't used it tho' as i tend to eat fish in places like El Posito and O' Lume.

We use Eroskis - simply becaust they took over from Syp - used to love the old Syp near La Font - great meat counter etc and although it was really small - it seemed to have everything. And can still hear the tune from the childrens 'ride' outside - think it was the Magnificent 7 or something! But we will certainly try Hyper in October as Eroskis has been really disappointing.

Many thanks for the recommendation

Oh YES! I remember it well! When we used to rent villas in the La Font area we were always getting our bbq bits from there. They used to have prepared kebabs in wonderful sauces already marinated, and as you said, their meats were plentiful.
Unfortuately we havent come accross such a variety of fresh prepared meats with the other supermarkets.

Hi

We are planning to arrive in PP in a couple of weeks time for the first time in a couple of years. Just wanted to check what the nearest supermarket was in PP. Have heard a rumour that one may have closed/is closing down? Many thanks.
