Default Local Olive Oil

Any ideas where I can buy and try local olive oil? Is there a Pollensa Co-operativa that maybe sells it, like they do in Soller?

there is at least one stall ( at the top of the steps) at the Pollensa Sunday market that has a range on display, with bread for dipping & sampling. We went for the Olis Soller, & looking at the bottle just now, note is from the Cooperativa Agricola Sant Bartomeu, Soller.

Nearly empty - wish we had bought a large bottle, rather than just .25l for the villa, which we ended up bringing home

Default Georg's

There is a wonderful shop in Alcudia town - "Georg's" which sells a lovely array of olive oil from Mallorca - and more! (they have a shop in Arta too.)

You can try everything before you buy - oils, vinegars, pesto and liqueurs and the lady is lovely (German I think.) I am always up for tasting but being offered a glass of olive oil to drink at 10am is a bit reminiscent of forced castor oil ministrations as a kid. EW!!! Thankfully you are offered bread for dipping too! They are happy for you to linger and try everything.

The oil is delicious - there is more than one to try (we like number 4) and this year we also bought "vinagre-crema Balsamatico de Dabil" - it is quite delicious. Probably the nicest balsamic vinegar I have tasted. It is aged in oak I think and is really thick and fruity. Drinking that was no problem.

Everything comes in a range of pretty bottles which have a home-made look and they say are shatterproof. They wrap things well in newspaper and giftwrap. If only there wasn't excess baggage to consider...

We haven't tried many of the liqueurs (again not a morning pursuit for me - must go back one evening - hic) but last year my sister got some chilli chocolate liqueur which tasted a bit like a black russian (you know tia maria and coke) but had a real kick at the end! Really unusual - must be tried!

The shop also sells some iron work and pottery etc - we got our cast iron gekko there last year.

I would defo recommend a look - it is an annual event for us now.

Directions - From the car park walk into the walled town (from the bus cross the road and go straight ahead past the car park on the left) then turn right when you are facing the pharmacy in the "square" where the cafes are. Walk down the hill and George's is is a side street on the right about a third down.

Thanks for that Lala, it sounds a great place to spend an hour or two and pick up a few things - probably not an iron gekko though!
