Bread.

Hope this doesn't sound too trivial, but can anyone advise which label of white sliced bread is closest to the typical British loaf?
The Spanish product seems to be sweet by comparison and knowing which to go for would save a couple of days of taste tests.

I think Al Fresco sell English sliced white (frozen) and you could also try Little Britain Foods.

Little Britain definitely has English bread .

We were over in the last 2 weeks and bought Bimbo Artisan white sliced loaves which I thought was really nice, and close to decent UK bread.

tangofan 24-07-2017 21:46

I agree, try Bimbo

Sparky 24-07-2017 22:48

I have to admit that we are not big bread eaters but Bimbo always seems to have a sour smell to it even when it's well within sell by date :p.

i have always used Bimbo for toast but fresh 'barra', like a french stick, for making baguettes.

Thank you, all, for your assistance. A couple of replies prompt me to enquire about Liitle Britain. We've never shopped there but haven't I read reports of unreliable opening hours? Or, was that when it was in Alcudia?

We find that the fresh bread in the supermarkets is excellent and in Lidl they even have a fantastic and fancy bread slicer that cuts the bread to your own desired thickness - far better than my local Tesco!! And the bread from the local artesan bakers is even better if you are adventurous enough to try it!!

Little Britain has regular opening hours and if not possible for her to open she is posting on facebook.

Mallorcan Bread

Love the Brown Mallorcan Bread and would like to know who bakes it for La Parra as it is best we have tasted and so fresh. :)

Thank you Kathy Seloc, that's interesting. Going to have to check that out next week.

Are there any working flour mills on the island, where I can buy local bread flour (harina de fuerza de trigo, I believe)? Or perhaps a bakery where I can buy local bread flour? Thanks.

The lovely Biobotiga Eu Moll Organica shop at 52 Joan XXIII in Puerto Pollensa, sells bread made from local flour.
This was one of their recent FB posts "Estamos en Biobotiga en Puerto Pollensa, productos BIO locales Pan fresco con harinas ecológicas locales"
It might be worth asking if they sell locally milled flour too.
