Default Gin

Question for gin experts or appreciators

My favourite is Bombay Sapphire which is normally for sale at anything between € 19,95 and € 22,95 per 1 lt.

Last night I was wandering past the large SPAR just before Avda Paris and saw a lot piled high at € 17,95 per 1 lt and 47% volume when it is normally 40%

Should I be wary of purchasing some or should I buy their entire stock ?.

Sorry, could someone put this thread where it should be unless you think that having a gin & tonic is essential before posting for the first time.

Thank you for moving it here.

Default Gin

MdR - are you sure about the volume you normally get ? The bottle of Bombay Sapphire that I have (regular label, but reads 'Imported') that I think I bought at Palma airport, is 47%

Hello WDS,

Most of the Bombay Gin sold here is 40%, which in theory is sold in the UK, Canada and of all places, Australia.

The 47% is sold in the US and "for export".

Maybe it is cheaper to buy so if people donīt look or know about the 47% strength, the shops margin will be bigger.

I like the 40% because it gives me the opportunity to have 2 GTīs without feeling guilty.

This Bombay Stuff is probably old stock going out of code.
Dont touch it 4 or 5 of these make your eyes go glazey and cause your legs to go rubbery.
Stick with a stiff upperlip and sip Gordons & Tonic.
Leave these upstart drinks to the youngsters.

The best deal by far was at Ensinat.in Pollensa the other day. Browsing therein as you do, Mrs C spotted a lone 70ml 43% bottle of Bombay Sapphire on the shelf priced at €13.87. Of course, it went through the till at the somewhat higher price e of €19.90.
The difference was pointed out - apologetically and politely - and the check out person - apologetically and politely - investigated the price ticket on the shelf edge and immediately produced the necessary refund.
We will be shopping at Ensinat in the future!!

Our favourite used to be Bombay Sapphire, which is local to us in Winchester.

However our favourite now is another local one, but this time in Mallorca. It is "Can Videlet" which is a vineyard on the road between Pollensa and Alcudia.

It is a very different gin and with a floral taste. I think it is only available from the vineyard. We love it.

The specialist wine shop on Joan XXIII sell it @ 30,50 euros

I had never taken any notice of it, but since you have mentioned it, 3 people have told me that itīs their favourite gin.

Will confirm if itīs mine or not next week !

Molt,

If you can obtain it in PP another very good label is Siderit : 43°. They also produce one with a pink tinge which is infused with hibiscus. We have only obtained it locally at home through an outlet called Ultra Comida which has one stone in Pembrokeshire and another in Aberystwyth (they're Spanish delicatessen).

Just seen a 70 cl bottle of Sapphire @ 43 volumen and a bottle of Sapphire East ( which is supposed to be very good ) @ 42 volume.

Both, by the way, in the Eroski by the Airplane roundabout.

MDR - the vineyard say it is designed to be drank "on the rocks" without tonic. As us Brits tend to prefer tonic, they say do not use schweppes as it will swamp the delicate flavours, use fevertree or similar instead.

But obviously it is a matter of choice.

I have never really liked Fevertree, l ways find it to be too overpowering and not exactly subtle.

Maybe they think that Can Videlet should be preferably used to make Dry Martiniīs !.
