Default Wheat and gluten free products?

Hello

I'm coming out to PP in September, and I wanted to know if there's anywhere that sells wheat and gluten free products, particularly bread and oatcakes? Also, are there any vegetarian cafes/restaurants? And is boiled water safe to drink in tea? Many thanks, Greta.

Practically all supermarkets stock gluten free products and a few restaurants have GF dishes on the menu.
The water is safe but you might not like the taste, as we are in a drought situation they could start to use water from the de-salination plant this really does not make for a good cuppa, best to use bottled .

Bellaverde is entirely vegetarian.

Even we omnivores have enjoyed meals there. Although, on our trip earlier this year, they had a new menu and there was just nothing we really fancied so didnt go in. Seemed that there was more veggie versions of usually meat based dishes, rather than the creativity we'd seen previously. Here's what I wrote about it last year - http://www.forum.puertopollensa.com/...ne-2015-a.html

Do also consider shopping in BioBotiga EU Moll at 52 Joan xx111 in Puerto Pollensa for fresh organic locally grown fruit & veg, and various alternatives to gluten breads, and ecologically produced wine etc
You can check them out on Facebook before you go if you'd like.

Hi Greta It's a bit hit and miss as to what you can get, where. I have never found one place where I could get everything I wanted. You can usually get gluten free pasta at Hiper, Lidl or Euroski. Hiper has GF sweet stuff - cake bars etc and occasionally breakfast cereal of the cocoa pops type. They also have some GF bread there too. I usually bring some GF cereal with me. All the Spar shops, Euroski and Hiper have GF crisps (Lays) and Lidl have GF chocolate (Nestle). There is a bread shop on Roger de Flor just past La Bodequita bar that do lovely GF bread. You have to order it the day before but it is very nice. Euroski had some frozen GF bread that turned out to be more like brioche. Luckily I didn't put marmite on it LOL!

As for restaurants, I have found that IRU, Centric and Can Josep are excellent for gluten free meals as they all have owners who are coeliac and therefore can be relied upon to get it right. There are others who are well promoted throughout the port who assure you that everything is GF and then serve you soup with normal bread croutons floating on top and who shrug with a roll of the eyes if you enquire about dessert and subsequently serve you nothing. My motto is check, check and check again but most of all enjoy PP

For a nice lunchtime snack the Illa D'or do sandwiches on (if requested) gluten free bread. Stay also provide gluten free rolls.
