Spot in Chelsea ..... thinking back it was my 1982 or 3 visit when it was a road and by the time we came back in1988 it was pedestrianised

Yep, we had lunch at the Gran Cafe and there was a man in a van dismantling the kiosk.

How sad. My children love that hut. It is indeed an end to an era

Very sad. 😠Visited them a fair few times in the last 3 years. I assume they will still have their little shop a bit further down? I hope the owners of Cafe 1919 ( Boulevard Grupo? ) are happy.

The Kiosk was taken away today, picture here from FB, I know lots of people had strong views on this but IMHO the front now looks clearer and more open, well once the barriers are removed

I think this proves what so many have said here, it had nothing to do with the concession going out to public tender but everything to do with the Grupo Boulevard wanting the kiosk removed. They have won and i wonder how long it will be before they take over the space with more tables and chairs.

Oh I do hope so, always a battle when one wants to get a table at the busy and popular cafe 1919!
Seriously though, it certainly opens up that corner and it's not as if the ice cream parlour doesn't have another premises only yards away. Maybe a tradition gone, which I do agree is sad, but who of us really knows the legalities of it all? Some are very quick to prejudge without really knowing.
Just my opinion folks....

They said it was heading off to Alcudia, whether for storage or to be used there they didn't say.
