Default Shops Open on Christmas Day?

We've had this post on our Facebook Page:

"Hi, we are arriving in Pollenca on Christmas day in the evening. Just wondering if any shops will be open to buy the basic food/drink stuffs from? Also, will any of the supermarkets/shops be open on boxing day? Any information greatly appreciated."

Can any locals respond - thanks

The Spar on the corner of Calle Llevant and Roger de Flor by the car park has opened on Christmas Day and Boxing Day for at least the past nine years so I would expect it to be open again this year.

James is correct but i am not sure if they will be open in the evening.

I would think that the supermarkets will be open on Boxing Day as it isn't a public holiday in Spain but don't quote me. Hopefully they will soon publish their Christmas opening times .

I looked at several Spanish public holiday websites and they all say the 26th is a holiday only in Catalonia .
The Eroski website for the store on the roundabout in PP is only saying that they will be closed on 25th.

Angry christmas day

I think people who want to shop on Christmas day should ask themselves, would I like to be away from my family working on this special day? I would imagine they would not but expect those in retail to work.

If I were you I'd eat at the airport. Pack a few tea bags/ coffee sachets and some of those small individual milk pods in your case, and once you're through security buy water and some snacks to see you through till the morning

If you plan to eat in a restaurant in the evening i think you will find that they would willingly sell you bottled water and milk .

My apologies for my previous post, I was looking at the official fiestas loborales for 2016 where the 26th falls on a Sunday, because of this the holiday will pass over to the Monday as with other national holidays throughout the year where they fall on Sundays,

Most petrol stations now have mini-shops in them. If the fuel station just by Palma Airport is open, you'll be able to buy quite a few basic groceries there.
