Default Alcampo ID

Alcampo no longer need a passport as ID for a credit card, a UK photocard driving licence will now do. This brings them into line with most other places.

It was always a pain to have to remember to take your passport with you, so that is good news.

Also - the ID is not required if you have a chip & pin credit/debit card.

Hi Deanscroft - are you sure about this?

I thought the changes were brought about because of the pin and chip cards. Yesterday I certainly needed to produce my driving licence with my Spanish pin and chip card.

In a local shop i was asked for my passport when using my debit card, i argued that it was not needed because it was chip and pin, the guy reluctantly accepted but said i should have it next time, so a couple of weeks later i took my passport and the owner of the shop told me it was not necessary as it was chip and pin and apologised for his employee's error.

I thought this was the case but have always been asked for ID (they have always accepted my photo card driving licence) at AlCampo when using my chip and pin credit card. Perhaps some staff training needed!

I've always been asked for my passport at Alcampo even though I pay cash in Euros. Do they ask the Spanish nationals for ID as well or is it just the foreigners?

It's probably two years since I've been in there though.
