Default moneys/bank cards

Our tickets are ready for collection so need to think about spending money. Looking to get a pre-payment cash card, I assume most places accept mastercard?? then we'll have some cash/travellers cheques? I don't know what the done thing is regarding money abroad these days haven't been for a few years. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Ali, I would recommend the pre-loaded cash cards, good r/e, safe, you can use it just about anywhere, lift money from the numerous cash machines at no extra cost, and the one we use gives you 1% back! MyTravel card operated by Newcastle BS, there are plenty of others mentioned on this website. I wouldn't bother with TC's, a bit outdated and cumbersome these days.

How much are you typically charged for using the ATM's? Also I can't think where they are around the port?

All the banks have ATMs, the Eroski on the roundabout has one in the foyer and there are lots more scattered around the Port.

With Travelex card the ATM withdrawels cost nothing with the post office card 2.50 euro's per withdrawel just remeber if you use these load them with euros and the travelex rate is usually pretty good.

Don't know where you are staying, we used the little shop on cala bot
that hire bikes near pollens park no commission.
Be careful of exchange place on front say no commission
but have service charge.

Ali i seem to remember you said you are staying at the Puerto Azul, they might cash TCs but i don't know. There are banks on C/Formentor, Banco March and Santander are 2 of them, there is a Barclays and a couple of others in C/Juan XX111. You will also find several exchange bureaus around the Port.

Default Exchange Rates w/comm Sept 9th

Just a few details about exchange rates over this past week.
Just got home this evening from a week in PP. Purchases on a Nationwide Visa credit card (NOT cash from an ATM) were charged at between 1.1553 and 1.1604 euros to the £. There were no commission charges. With a Nationwide Visa Debit card we had one withdrawal of cash from an ATM which gave an exchange rate of 1.155 euros to the £. There was an additional 'non UK Commission charge' (on 250 euros) of £4.32 and a 'non-UK withdrawal fee' or £1.00. I think that works out to an effective exchange rate of 1.129 euros to the £.
The rate for £100 from the Post Office the day we travelled was a miserly 1.09 euros to the £.
Because our current account is with Nationwide, we get free annual travel insurance.
