Thinking about this,I think I may try this recipe with veggie haggis, I imagine its a similar texture to the offal, I will fry up the veggies in olive as per the recipe given, and add the steamed haggis in small chunks, this should soak up all the lovely juices. You can get the veggie haggis from Waitrose, I will check they stock it all year, try it and let you know what its like.

Well, I always obey instructions from moderators.

Let me preface the story by saying that I don't speak Catalan at all and my Castilian is pretty much limited to asking directions, reading a menu and the like, rather than having enough for real conversations. And, on the other hand, Guillem does not speak English.

So, we went to visit his huerto in Soller. A lovely little patch of ground with fruit trees and vegetables. And a big rabbit hutch with the cutest, fluffiest little bunnies you'd care to imagine. Including this one with the whitest, fluffiest fur you'd care to imagine. Even this hard hearted northerner had to do a bit of pointing and "ooh and aaaahhing".

Next day, Guillem arrives at the apartment (we're staying with his son and wife) with the said Mr Bugs. Only now he has no fluffy white fur. And he's nicely jointed ready for cooking. Guillem, of course, just presumed that when we'd "oooh and aahed" and pointed, we were just picking out the one we wanted to eat. And, of course, it had never occured to us that fluffy Mr Bugs and his cute little brothers and sisters were anything other than pets.

Anyway, chopped up Mr Bugs went on the BBQ that night. And Pedro made a fierce alioli to go with it. And a salad. Absolutely delicious!

Don't think it's going to work too well. Veggie haggis can taste fine if it's properly seasoned but it's not got anything like the right texture for a frito - it's really just flavoured oatmeal, so you've no proper "bits".

For a veggie person, I'd stick to just veggies and get the flavourings right. If memory serves, Fortaleza used to do a cracking one (if not them, then somewhere else very near them).

OMG!!! ..great story though Harters. Rabbit was one thing i would never eat until we moved here and then i realised i had actually been eating it for years, in the paella i loved when on holidays. Tried it with onions it was delicious but not so keen on the grilled version.

Thanks for the advice Harters, I will try it without first, as for Mr Bugs, still goes on over here, my wife can remember her father always having rabbits in cages out the back, they thought they were pets, turns out they were for the pot, probably why she turned veggie!!

It's a great starter at the restaurant L'Alba in CSV! Can't wait for september so I can choose this dish again, and introduce it to my friends.
