Default Mountain Fire Visible from PP

While I sat eating at Tango this evening,we noticed that the hill beyond probably Arta direction was on fire. There had been smoke around all afternoon but by the time our meal was finished the whole hillside was alight . Where was the sea plane we wondered?? as far as we could tell it was parked up at the base. It is a huge fire but we only had our phone with us and it has not come out clearly enough to post.

It was quite a sight, we watched from stay and the whole mountain was silhouetted by fire. It appeared to be dying down by 11.30. Hope nobody was hurt. I too wondered where the sea plane was. The sea plane was out first thing this morning and headed in the direction of the fire

I did watch the local news and it seems to have spread from Arta along to Santa Margalida and Muro. Like you we hope no one was hurt. I did see a plane on the news so perhaps the local one had been relieved or went out later.

That is a shame, there are some lovely wooded valleys and hills on the road that way, I hope no one was hurt and not too much woodland destroyed.

More news on the two fires yesterday

40 homes evacuated in Mallorca fire
The main fire is under control, but a second blaze remains to be controlled

A fire which forced the evacuation of 40 homes and a rural hotel on Mallorca has been brought under control overnight. 350 hectares were affected in the municipalities of Maria de la Salut, Santa Margalida, Muro and Llubí.

Strong winds on Wednesday made its extinction more complicated, but conditions improved later. However another fire in Artà was reported only to be 40% controlled early Thursday morning and had affected 200 hectares.

Five local roads were closed by the fire, three of which are now open again, leaving the MA3440 and MA3443 affected Thursday morning

I am happy to be corrected but I doubt that the sea plane operates at night for safety reasons. We were relaxing in Tamarreles and watched in amazement as the whole mountainside became alight and it was clear it was far from being under control when we left about 11. Very sad and its early in the season yet.

Default fires

Lola and I watched the smoke at both locations all afternoon. The fire plane did attend in the afternoon and we watched thro binos him dipping ito the Bay of Alcudia for a long time. When he returned it was the shortest landing, turn and up the ramp I have ever seen in years. As i say he was out there for some time working mainly in the Arta area and maybe his short landing was because he was short of fuel. He certainly made a run fro the ramp. We could see clearly as darkness fell the flames creep over the summit and steadily burn down the sides. I read a report this moring which said nothing about anyone being hurt thank goodness, an amazing spectacle to watch but terrifying for those in close proximity

As well as the pics, look at the videos on the right hand side.
The middle one is particularly interesting. Thanks for the link Clbb.

Think the newspaper link has updated, so news of the fire will no longer show, unless they have a back issues page.
