Just in case you missed this BL on the DB Thread

BATTLE LINES DRAWN TO FIGHT SMOKING BAN
STAFF REPORTER

PALMA

THE Balearic Confederation of Businesses Restaurant Association and Pimem, the small to medium sized business sector, has joined forces to fight the new anti-smoking ban which, according to the service sector, is literally killing off revenue, restaurants and jobs.
The two association, which represent the vast majority of bars, restaurants and cafes in the Balearics, is going to hold its first meeting on march 7, to decide upon its strategy. The location has yet to be decided but it expected to be central to the island so that as many members as possible can attend the preliminary meeting.
According to both association, since the new law came in to force on January 2, the restaurant and bar sector has seen takings fall by between 20 and 50 percent.

Favie,

That's good news. We all get upset by the enforced EU laws of giving prisoners the vote but just roll over when the anti smoking brigade impose their fascism !!

Long live freedom !!

That's got me thinking BL. Is there a smoking ban in the nick Surely the original "enclosed space". Can't exactly jail them for breaking the law!

Sparky,

Yes , the House of Commons was designated a " Palace " ( which it is i.e the Palace of Westminster ) and was therefore excluded from the legislation.

Talk about " Do as I say not do as I do " !!!!!

Hypocrites !!!!!

BL in my opinion all governments are guilty of hypocrisy over anti smoking legislation, if they are really that concerned about peoples health why don't they go the whole hog and ban the production and sale of all tobacco products.
Why, because they can't afford to lose the revenue in brings in to their coffers .

Yes as several of you point out let's leave it to the good nature and public spiritedness of smokers not to pollute the air space of others without legislation. Actually during the past three weeks it has been a pleasure to eat in a number of establishments in PP without the rancorous odour of smoke. Having worked in the medical profession and directly dealing with the impact of smoking - self inflicted and passive - it has to be progress. For the record prisoners are allowed to smoke in their own cell (providing it is a single cell) !!!

Hear hear. Nobody wants to stop people doing what they want to do, as long as they don't subject the rest of us to their personal choices.
