Development in Ulall and pedestrianisation
For those who live or stay in or near the Gotmar area, I have read that Pollenca council have approved plans to develop the large piece of land close to the Pollensa Park Hotel. This will be a huge building project as there is about 100,000 sq. metres of land. I don't have the details but would expect a mixture of residential, hotels, commercial.
As part of the deal, the developers will also complete the pedestrianisation between Llenaire and the port, which was abandoned 2 years ago.
For those who know this area it will completely change what we have there now.

Any idea of time scales - we usually stay in Las Velas complex which overlooks some of this land would hate to be sitting in balcony overlooking a building site was planning to book for next July.
Thanks

Glad we are the other end of Gotmar.
My husband had heard about this deal about 4 years ago when it was being put together. At that time it was very complex and many 'names' were involved!
I'm sure there will be many things to come out regarding this in time to come.

I have to agree with Eleanor. I know there has been planning permission in place for the last 4 years to develop the land between the back of Llenaire up to the Pollensa Park Hotel but as yet no-one has started to make a move. I was told that planning permission here lasts for about 4 years and so am thinking that the developers may have re-applied to keep the 'permissions' active and give them another 4 years to get finances together to start the development. Fingers crossed we won't be seeing any more of the dreaded AI coming to the pueblo
Wob - any more news / details?

The development was, among other places, reported on in "Talk Of The North" last week; I wrote it.
The town hall is making submissions to the Council of Mallorca for a so-called area of territorial reconversion which would permit construction in Ullal. It's not necessarily a done deal as there is political opposition; the Mallorcan socialists for example reckon that it will end in failure.
I'm unaware of there being any provision for a hotel; the development is intended to be for residential houses and apartments.
It's correct that the pedestrianisation scheme is linked to the development.
There are no timescales as such, but it could proceed quickly if given the go ahead, as has been the case in Alcudia where a reconversion declassification was approved at the start of June to unblock permission for building that is now already well under way.

Pedestrianisation plan and the Don Pedro
As flagged up on 25 July, Pollensa town hall yesterday approved the plan for a development in the Ullal area of Puerto Pollensa which would also involve the developers undertaking the pedestrianisation of the resort's "front line". The town hall has also approved the demolition of the Don Pedro hotel in Cala San Vicente.

Emmmm!!! Not good ehh! Deanscroft.
Yes thanks for the info Deanscroft. I have acted on it. We had heard that there was so much opposition to the suggestion that it was put on the back boiler.
Apparently there is a senior council member living in the road 2 over from us who is stamping his feet very firmly and has managed to gain much support. we will have to wait to see, I suppose.

Isnt the main development the old peoples home, and the offer of change of site for the illegal building in CSV eg Don Pedro which they say they are going to demolish? Pollenca council are totally barking. Pedestrianisation of the front would be disastrous

I don't think the building of the residencia is anything to do with what is proposed. I believe all the same arguments re pedestrianisation of the pine walk end were made and now it seems to be quite popular,I for one enjoyed being able to walk without all the traffic. Providing they get the access and road closures right I think it could be beneficial to all.

Look at the pedestrianisation in actual port area of Puerto Alcudia. That used to be a buzzing little area - cars, restaurants and people all buzzing but now it is soulless. The big development of the port area is nothing like I remember it when I first went to Mallorca and it is such a shame. Councils are not learning from the mistakes made in other resorts on the Island and I fear that PP could be destroyed by yet more building and the pedestrianisation. Look at how they managed to sneak through the huge hotel complex between PP and Alcudia. I remember talking to locals about that at the time and they were up in arms as they too were worried about how far building would go. Personally, I am surprised that they have never tried to build between the Port and the hotel, which is what they did in Puerto Alcudia. There used to the odd hotel dotted along road until you eventually reached C'an Picafort and slowly each one was joined up with row upon row of restaurants, bars and beach shops.
Many years ago we used to have a day out to Cala Ratjada where we would do a bit of shopping and have lunch. We went this year for the first time in ages and it was such a disappointment and very sad to see a once pretty little resort transformed - it was basically just another C'an Picafort. Yet you go to places like Soller which are beautiful. The council covering Soller seems to have got the right balance of building and allowing everything to co-exist. You even have the train running through the centre of the main square with no railings and it all works.
Remove the traffic and you remove the passing trade from people who aren't staying in the resort so don't get the chance to experience the pleasures of PP. I agree that they had to remove coaches and this has automatically reduced the amount of traffic. We had to cross the road everytime we wanted to go the beach and it was fine.
