Question Palma Airport

Does anybody know if you can access the roof (solarium) at Palma airport. My daughter and her family have just been told they have a delay of 7/8 hours?

Hi Whaley, do you mean the small outside area, its used to by nice to sit out on the sun loungers but now seems to be used as a smoking area , although at least its outside, you can access it before you go through security. If there is another one let me know

Thanks SWS - so it seems that once through security you are stuck inside. I thought I had heard that there was an outside area, perhaps it's the one that you mention, although I didn't know about this one. Hopefully they were told when they checked in and haven't passed through security. Is the door on the same floor as security?

the outdoor area is directly opposite the security queue, once up the stairs from check in it runs along the left hand side with various doors. Once through security I couldn't find anywhere to go out.

I don't think you can access outside areas once through security.
Probably for security reasons. 7 hours is a long delay - what a pain! Was a reason given as to why such a long delay?

No Whaley as pips said once through security thats it, thats the one at the top as you go around towards security, as I said it used to be nice, we would always sit out there when the kids were small and have a picnic and a few beers before the flight trying to catch as many rays or the lovely evening heat before a flight back to the inevitable rain at Luton, now the nice chairs and flowers have gone and its a bit shabby and dirty. Who are they flying with to have that much of a delay, surely they will get food and drinks provided?

Just found this picture on the web

Thanks all for your help and concern. They are flying Monarch to Manchester and were given an apologetic letter when they arrived at check in saying that due to technical reasons they had to take a plane out of service and they now had to wait for another plane that could be re-diverted to Palma! They were given pocket money (vouchers) of 12€ each!

Thank goodness for ipod's etc to keep the boys happy.

Thanks for the photo sws, I know exactly where you mean now.

PS: They went through security as there are not many places to eat on the check-in side. They were told they could take the bus into Palma but that would have meant spending more money so they have resigned themselves to the wait.
