Thumbs up Best Place to Buy Euros?

I'm due to fly out to PP on 3rd July and will be buying my Euros next week. Any ideas as to where the cheapest place might? I'm thinking the Post Office, Natwest, M&S or the Travel House. What do you think?

Cool

Travel House today in Swansea was 1.178. That's quite good, innit?

I always get confused - is it the higher the Euro the better, or the other way around?

Thick, or what?

Also remember that if you have an M&S Credit card you can use it to pay for your euros and they appear on your statenment as a transaction rather than a cash advance so you pay no commission and get an interest free loan until your bill date
Just don;t forget to pay off your balance in full as I understand they have some funny rules about the order in which things are paid off ....... but for anyone who clears their balance each month it is well worth knowing about when their interest rate is on a par with others of course

I now use Travelex.. you buy online and then pick them up at the airport.(Most Airports). Their rate at Now Friday is 1.810 no commis. It works out convinient too and gives you something to do at the airport. The Order is already packaged for you..

If you look on Money Saving Expert: Consumer Revenge - Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more there is a link for travel money giving you a comparison table. This is a true comparison as it includes any commission or delivery fees. Using this last month, we ended up getting ours at the post office. I came back with loads and still havn't changed them back though!

Default Best Place to Buy Euros

Have you thought about a FairFX pre-paid Mastercard. It's at 1.2025 a minute or two ago. No comm, top up on-line, by mobile, and a flat 1.5 Euros withdrawal fee. No charge at all if you just use it as a Mastercard for purchases. I've had mine for a while now and it is consistently a higher rate. Have a look at the web site.

Mick

Visa exchange rate is 1.22 today if you get your euros from an ATM, safer than taking lots of cash as well!

For several years we have used nothing other than Nationwide cards - Visa Debit and Visa Credit. No commision or charges to pay for using 'abroad'. First stop usually the ATM at Eroski for a wad of cash on the debit card and grocery supplies at the check out on the Visa credit card.

Now with the Euro (though for how long??) always make sure we go home with 50 euros, and some loose change, for any expenses at the airport on the way out 'next time'.

Because there will be a next time, won't there?

Have always had at least as good as or better than the Post Office M&S etc.

Was getting around 1.213 for purchases at the back end of last week. 1.196 earlier in the week.

A big plus - you don't need to carry a weeks supply of cash from the uk, or indeed during your holiday - just get enough from the ATM for your immediate needs. An added safety thing is to take different bank credit card which you keep separate from the 'in use' cards in case you lose them. This will still allow you to access cash and carry on with your holiday.

You should note that you should reject any offer by an ATM or shopkeeper to charge you in £'s - only sign for a Euro charge.

I bought ciggies at the Tabac opposite the Marina last week. I was offered 231 euros or £201.91. I rejected Sterling and paid in Euros. Just checking my card account and Nationwide have 'only' charged me £192.30.

That's 2 extra beers on the Illa D'Or terrace!!
