Today may be a good day to get some cash to take

Pound hits fresh 19-month high against euro

£1 buys 1.2356 +0.0051 +0.41

The pound has hit a fresh 19-month high against the euro as the 16-nation currency comes under renewed pressure.

The pound rose almost half a cent to 1.2327 euros, its highest level since the immediate aftermath of the financial crisis in November 2008.

Sorry to rain on you parade Clinkham but Nationwide are now going to start charging. That's at least 2 of us worse off!

This is indeed grim news for all of us who use Nationwide as our main way to get money whilst abroad. It does make me wonder whether they used this perk as a carrot to entice people in and then move the goalposts, think they will loose a lot of customers.

I don't think I dreamt it but fairly sure you can now use your UK Santander visa/debit card to draw cash at any 'SANTANDER' ATM in Spain, without incurring charges. Can anyone confirm this?

we got Santandar Zero cards before going they do not charge for credit card transactions, no cross boarder charge, also no charge useing their cash machines using a Santander debit card. Though there was an email before we went about needing a certain amount deposited in our current accounts every month to get this.

Got a letter in from Nationwide last week. While they are starting to charge for cash withdrawls the rate is not too bad. One plus is that you get free travel insurance. It covers multi trips within Europe, not exceeding 31 days and as we have a joint account it covers both me and Chemical Kate. Worth hanging on for. The only drawback is that you need to use the Flexaccount as a main account, putting £750 per month in (just loose change for BL!!).

Adios

Just checked my normal Halifax debit card, I got 1.183 to the pound on withdrawals, not bad.
