Default Volcano forecast

Does anyone know what the news is on the volcano? Is it all clear now or are we likely to see more disruption in the future?

We are heading out to PP on Friday (I hope) and need to book car hire. Economy is cheaper than Record but you have to pay up front. Would I be better going with Record as you do not pay until you arrive?

Hi GG, flying out to Seville on Thursday so also keeping an eye on the volcano, wind in the UK will stay from the south or south west until at least Saturday which should will blow any ash out of UK airspace, hopefully, here is the latest MetOffice report of the volcano activity

Volcanic Ash Update
The eruption from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano continues, but has remained at a similar level of intensity over the last few days with less activity than the previous week. Low cloud has obscured the volcano summit, but the latest information shows the ash to be rising 3 to 4 kilometres into the atmosphere. The resulting plume is spreading northwest away from the volcano, and well to the north of the U.K. Issued at 0634 on Tue 27 Apr 2010.

Hope this helps

This is the latest report from Ice News:
Volcanic activity at South Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano and the production of ash have been steady over the last few days and the lava stream continues to flow to the north. Geologists and meteorologists say that although activity is much lower now than at the peak, there is no sign the eruption is coming to an end.........

Lets hope that is no more disruption to flights.

With regard to booking a car..........it is about as clear as mud to me. Looks reasonably priced until you add on the extra insurance.
very important to read the small print.

IMO I really doubt if they would decide to close down the airspace again. Appparently, in any given DAY there's TWENTY volcanos erupting somewhere on earth

Or if you come out a few times a year you can pay for annual 'excess' insurance - see puertopollensa.com/car-hire-majorca.html#insurance

Car Hire companies such as Record will charge you 3-4 euro extra per day to cover tyres etc. (some charge even more). You can choose to refuse it but then have leave a Credit Card deposit in case of any damage.

The met office are tracking the ash on a daily basis here:

ash maps

We’re due in PP at the beginning of June and i’d like to think that the winds in the summer months are mainly from the south which would keep the ash away

[I'm a nervous enough flyer at the best of times so i've convinced myself that this is correct]
