Exchange rip off

We would like to warn all visitors to PP not to use the Exchange opp. the sea front and almost opposite the bus station. Or if you do use it check your money carefully. They offered a better rate than anywhere else, but we would have been 19 euros short of the offer price. When questioned she just pleaded ' not understanding'..... They also do not give a receipt? So there is not trace of the transaction. We asked for our sterling back and went elsewhere.

I also went into this exchange when my family visited recently. They were displaying 1.12 outside so my mum thought she would take advantage to change 1000pounds. When inside she was offered 1,016EUR!! When I questioned this (where's the 1,120EUR?!) I was told that the rate depended on the amount of money changed (something which was not stated outside). Then I asked how much we needed to change to receive the 1.12 exchange rate displayed and I was told 2,500pounds!! Not many people on holiday would be changing this kind of amount so I agree with Rose, avoid them, it's a rip off!!

If I am thinking of the same exchange place we were ripped off about 10 years ago, so not alot has changed, since then have never exchanged money anywhere but in the banks at least you know where you stand with them.

This must be a different exchange as the one we went to has only been there a couple of years. I agree that you know where you stand with the banks but they don't always give the best rate and mainly charge commission. I think the important thing is to calculate how much you should receive before changing your money using the rate displayed by the bank/exchange and don't do it if they don't offer this amount.

Hi all

I also went into this place last week, still displaying the 1.12 euros to the pound sign outside. As mentioned, you get nowhere near this amount.

When questioned about this the female serving could not give any proper answers or pretended not to understand. She appeared not to know the rate even though she was viewing a computer screen!

I think the moral here is:

1. to quiz exactly what rate you are getting,

2. to check what you have been given.

Regards,

Nick
