Default The Pine Walk calls...

Hi All,
I'm just sitting here, listening to the rain bouncing off the roof and the wind howling at the moon, reading the great posts on here - reviews of eating-out places, how great the weather's been, advice on which hotel or apartment to book next year...etc.
We spent 2 weeks in PP in July and the weather was absolutely amazing, the food was out of this world, the beaches were HOT! and the sea was cool. Boy do I miss all that.
I'm thinking, what the hell am I doing still living in the UK? We've both retired, we've got a few bob at last, paid off the mortgage and the few debts we had, and the kids have both moved out and married. (YES!)
But the summer here has been one of the wettest, most miserable I can ever remember. It's so depressing. I was watching the Pine Walk webcam earlier. It looked fantastic, and really hot. I want to be there now.
But do people have the same problem as we have? We've got 2 cats and feel terrible leaving them for 2 weeks in the summer. The neighbours are great and look after them. But one of the cats is now blind and deaf! She's so old, at least 19 and we feel so guilty flying off to the sun and leaving them. I was just saying to my wife, if it wasn't for the cats I would definitely book a month in PP for this September.
Never mind, we'll just have to wait for next year. It sounds heartless, but as soon as the cats have gone, if you know what I mean, we'll be out to PP 3 or 4 times a year.
Tony

Pollpott,
You have my sympathy. We arrived home on Saturday from a lovely week in PP - to find that one of our cats had left messages all over the sitting room! Never happened before! But she's a rescue cat who is now knocking on a bit - but nowhere near your cat's venerable age - and so we think possibly our absence might be stressing her. And like you, we would have thought twice about leaving our last cat in her final years.

I'm now worrying about how she'll cope with the three weeks visiting relatives in the States planned for next year! We also have good neighbours who feed them but.....

I have no idea how it works but just a thought, why not get pet passports and bring them with you?.

Thanks for your concern, but I'm Feline fine this morning!

Sparky,
Not sure how the passport for pets work but we'd have the same problem out there. Leaving the cats while we go off for the day, and the night.
No, we'll just wait a year and see what happens.

Is it not possible to pay a young person perhaps to pop in to feed them and play with them? If they were to get to know someone now perhaps by the time you go away it will be less of a problem for them.
Young kids find it difficult to get weekend jobs nowadays and are always looking to earn a few pounds. Just an idea.
