Default Currency Exchange

Hi,

We are visiting Puerto Pollensa next week and are watching the exchange rate worsening by the day.

We thought that we may change our £ to Euros in PP.

Where is the best place to change our money and what are the current exchange rates and charges?

Many Thanks

RobinC

I believe the Post Office may give you the best deal, just beware if using the change shops along the front that you will not have to pay commision or other extras. There was an article recently in DB that referred to somewhere on the seafront making charges after the travellers cheques had been signed.

Thanks very much,

We are just trying to decide whether to change our cash over here or take English and change in PP - We have a shop which is directly opposite a Bureau de Change, so every morning when I open the door I am faced with the rate board - it does get depressing at times! The Euro is now down to 1.09 to the £. It will probably start to improve the day after we change our cash!

Default Rate of Exchange

Robin, If you have access to one of the Money Change shops ( there are loads of them now) I tend to use them. Normally thay will give a much better rate, say an extra 2 cents to the pound ,far better than the likes of M&S. I personaly would not recommend the Post Office!

Hi Robin and welcome.

I do what Smiddy does and find the rates to be better than the Post Office or Thos Cook or Thomson shops.

They say they will match the Money Shop's rate but if you see it to be better in the first place why bother going to the normal travel agent shops.

And I always get spanking clean new notes!

In PP I used to change sterling sometimes in the Hotel Eolo, who had the best rate , commission free, but last year found that to be no longer the case.

The shop opposite us is Eurochange and they usually have one of the best rates in our town - they are just opening so I will see what the rate is later, still 1.09 from yesterday at the moment.

I suppose it doesn't make that much difference, but it is a bit of fun finding the best rate.

I'll have a search for a Money Change shop - we may be able to get to one before we go if its worthwhile.

Only four days to go now, just hoping that the dispyte at Manchester doesn't disrupt our flights on Tuesday morning. Coming to worjk this morning in heavy rain is going to make these 4 days seem like an eternity!

I only got 1.09 when transferring my monthly money across. I was referring to the Post Office in Puerto Pollensa and not the UK. Hubby says he saw someone get a really good deal earlier in the year.
