Default Square to be upgraded ?

Interesting to note in today's Bulletin that the Mayor of Pollenca announced yesterday that now that the drainage works have been completed there is to be a major facelift of the promenade and square. Looks like further promenisation of the front road is now likely ( Marina entrance to Tolos ?? ) and the square will have the flower beds removed, hopefully which, according to them have always been a problem. If they follow the way they have improved Port D'Alcudia it should be some improvement.

Wonder also if they will make use of the school quad area. There was talk of using the school site as an auditorium when funds allow. Perhaps they'll also be stricter with the bars/restaurants in appearance and encrouchment.

To start a thread , any ideas on statue subjects, guys ??

That's fantastic news BL...keep us posted! I said the last time we were out (as I nearly tripped and broke my neck) that the prom was looking really tatty and getting very dangerous. And if they are going as far as Tolo's it will be fantastic

Only one statue for me ...it's got to be El Cachorro de la montana

Dont like the sound of getting rid of flower beds though.

Large wine vat in the style of the original oak type.

Default Square upgrade ?

I agree with other sentiments, PP does need some tidying up and I hope it doesn't just stop in the square. There are whole streets in or near the centre that are looking dirty and run down with more than a few very tatty shops. The council should use what powers and funds it has to get more than the square sorted as, in my opinion, PP is looking a bit more than tired at the moment.

For many years, so i have been told, the money has been spent in Pollensa.
At long last the council has realised that PP is where most of the tourist money is spent. So it is long overdue but now PP is to get it's facelift, not just the square but the prom and many of the back streets will also benefit.
I agree it is getting tired and tatty but most important the pavements are downright dangerous. It's safer to walk in the road.

P.S re:statue how about the Mayor of PP.

Blimey, anyone new to the site and/or new to Puerto Pollensa would think its a right slum!.......Still a lovely place and far far nicer than any other coastal town on the island imo, even if parts are looking a bit dog eared. Agree with the comments on some of the pavements, Claim Direct would have a field day if they were in Blighty.

Good news indeed.

However, the place will only benefit if residents and visitors respect their surroundings ie rubbish, litter, dog dirt.

Does anyone know when the work will start?

You're right. Going to PP for the first time on Tuesday (can't wait!). You are making it sound like Deptford High Street!

Dont worry Paul the comments refer mainly to the back streets and the areas away from the beach and port area, these areas are fine. The problems mentioned here and elsewhere refer to dog mess, rubbish bins not being emptied etc.
It would be great to hear your reports when you get back to see your opinion as a first timer, to get a more unbiased view then one from regulars. You will have a great time, weather permitting I’m sure, so enjoy it.

Going to PP on the 30th for the first time was starting to doubt my choice for a minute. Appreciate your opinion Paul as a first timer also.
