Default exchange rates

Hi I just have a quick question about the exchange rate in the pp at the moment. I am coming over next week with my family and wondered whether it's better to buy my euro's here or wait until I get there. I know there isn't a huge difference but with a family of 5 to feed, every little helps as they say.

Cheers

Sarah

How are you planning to change your money? As is often discussed here, the best thing is to open a 'Nationwide' flex account, stick your holiday cash in the account and withdraw at ATM's with a rate better than any bank or exchange and NO charges or commission. Type Nationwide in the search tool to view the various chats we have had about it on here.

I was just going to bring cash with me so I don't get charged for the withdrawals over there (although I might need to do that towards the end of the holiday). The Nationwide looks good but I probably wouldn't have time to open the account now with the bank holiday in between. This won't affect me but their website says that they are now going to pass on any visa charges to the customer from 6 May for credit cards and 1 June for debit cards, so if any of you do have this account you might want to check that out. It will be 1% of the transaction.

Yes, but if you read on it clearly states that no fee will be charged for use of the card in Spain.

Default Online currency

Hi Sarah. I've recently used an online currency company called Travel Money Services. They deliver to your door, the earliest you can now get is 17th April but they are currently offering 1.094 for that date. Thats much higher than travel agents and banks. I didn't post earlier because I wanted to make sure I got my money first!!!! But got 1.15 to the pound only last week. The money comes via Royal Mail signed delivery.
Maybe worth a look. Here's the link: Foreign Currency Exchange Rates from Travel Money Services

Market rate currently at 1.11 - it has recovered over 4% in last week

(Watch it now plummet as I have said that)

I was having a chat with a fellow importer yesterday afternoon and he told me that he has 'forward bought' euros for June from HSBC at 1.18 so HSBC obviously expect the £ to rally over the next few months.

Just hope they are right, but what do bankers know

But as pointed out above VISA do not charge for Spain so there will be no charge to pass on: see Nationwide Building Society - Foreign Transactions

For Spain it states "Spain - No fee charged"

good points well made, should of looked into it a bit more carefully next time.

Back to the point made originally by Sarah74. Regardless of bank accounts not charging or good exchange web sites, what is the exchange rate if i were to get cash exchanged in a place in PP at the moment?

Thanks

Hi ryansclan just checked out the link you suggested, looks very good, offering 1.137 for delivery in July which is good as M&S are only offering 1.084 today, anyone else found any good deals at the moment?
